Cold. I woke up on the floor. My body was aching and I didn't remember how I got from my bed to the floor.

I felt different... almost lighter as I got up. Funny, there were a few feathers scattered around the room.
Was there a pigeon in the room? The window was closed?!?

I got up off the floor and looked at the clock on the wall. Sh*t it was 7:30.I dashed into the bathroom and brushed my teeth before running out of the room and down the hall in my shorts and t-shirt.

No one was meant to be out the rooms before 7:30 anyway so I was fine as I ran to the kitchen. No one looked at me anyway.

As I ran into the kitchen I noticed all the elders were in the kitchen alongside the omegas from both outside and inside the pack house. Whenever a powerful alpha came, the elders would make a special dish to honour the alpha.

The elders looked at me skeptically whilst the other omegas gave me looks of sympathy, pity and annoyance.

"Angel... dear, how are you feeling?" Severus approached me cautiously.

I bowed my head to them before giving Severus a small shy smile.

"I-I'm fine thank you... why wouldn't I be?" I say whilst lifting my head up to see a sea of confused faces.

"Did you sleep well?" Eleanor, another elder said.

"Perfectly fine, although someone must've let a pigeon loose in the pack house, could you believe there were feathers everywhere in my room!" I said and giggled slightly.

The others hesitated before nervously laughing with me.

"Is everything okay?" I smelling the nervousness in the room... alongside the sweat. Gross.

"Everything is fine." Severus said with a taught smile stretched upon his face.

"O-okay well I better get to work then!" I say as I walk away from the elders with a feeling of anxiety. What's wrong with them? I wondered as I joined Cody in making the quiches.

After finishing up work in the kitchen I walked over to the dining area making sure everyone was okay before taking leave and going back to my room.

Then it hit me. The ball was today. I felt a sort of flutter in my chest as I wondered what it would be like to get all dressed up and dance for the first time.

But I wouldn't be able to do that. I wasn't allowed to go. I had no clothes or any kind of attire that would be suitable for the ball.

A heaviness filled my chest as I got changed from my nightwear into some jeans and a big holey white t-shirt.

After freshening up I walked out from the pack house and into the gardens.

Then it hit me. The smell of spice and musk. It was almost like an aphrodisiac and it pulled me towards it. I looked around to see if anyone else had noticed it but everyone carried on going about their preparations.

I carried walked to my secret reading spot, trying to ignore the scent when I heard two girls who were waayy to young to be attending the ball speak about our guest.

"He's here, I can't believe it... HE'S HERE!" Well sufficed to say I think I knew who the 'he' was.

It seemed alpha king had arrived to darkblood pack.

Not that I held any interest of course.

As I walked into my secret spot covered away from the world I grabbed the book I was currently reading. This was life. I felt at peace as I carried on reading from where I left off.

Then it hit me again. The strong scent wafted around me and embraced me in a strong hold of comfort. What was happening?

I peered out of my little spot to see alpha Zack showing around a man and what seemed to be his entourage.

Suddenly, in the midst of speaking he cut off his sentence and looked around the garden. I fell back and curled up close to the tree trunk behind me.

"I se- do you smell that?" His voice was deep and powerful and made my cheeks tinge red. Who was he?

"Smell what, alpha king?" I hear Zack say. Wait a minute- ALPHA KING!?!

Oh no.

I waited for the posse to move past before scrambling up out of the bushes and running into the packhouse. I looked around the packhouse to see everyone staring at me.

I quickly walked past everyone and looked down, avoiding eye contact with everyone. Once in my room, I set all my emotions loose.

Oh my goddess. How could this be? Is this even possible? What kind of sick joke has fate played on me.

The my thoughts got darker.

He could never want me. I'm so pathetic and weak. What if he rejects me?

HAEPHESTUS

It happened when I was touring the pack gardens.

Like a punch to the gut her scent hit me with a wild force. The fresh scent of moon flowers and Jasmine.

I cut off my sentence hoping that she would come forth if I asked the question lingering on my mind.

''I se- do you smell that?'' I looked back at my betas and the alpha of darkblood.

''Smell what, alpha king?'' the alpha responded.

''J- Its nothing.'' I walked ahead trying to look around for the source of the smell. She's here. I looked all through the gardens again when I came to a gap between two bushes and a tree

Just behind it; I saw an old tatty blanket with a pillow on the ground, with a few books stacked next to the tree. My girl is a reader, I thought pensively. I grabbed the open book on the blanket and ran my fingers over the skinny bookmark she had carelessly thrown onto the page. I set the book down and stuffed the book mark into my pocket.

This was my comfort. At least for now.
