Chapter 3: Long time no see

Riley's POV:
"Shit," I mutter. I look up to see my confused boss. "I-I'm sorry Johnny. Excuse my language. I'll leave you to your work now." I walked out of his office looking at the ground with my mouth wide open. I can't believe that I'll be working with Lucas. Out of all the people, it had to be him..

(The next day)
I wake up with a headache because of the horrible amount of sleep I got. I barely slept for two hours, and when I did sleep, worries filled my train of thought.

This is probably why I've been getting all of these nightmares. They were terrible memories and such that were reminding me of the boy I once loved and how I'd have to work with him for as long as I worked at that company. I'd get the horrible pleasure of getting to see his face everyday.

I get up and go through my daily routine. Today I'm wearing a simple black dress with black high heels. I curled my hair and did my usual makeup before signaling a cab to take me to work. When I get there I stop to talk to Maya. "Morning Maya," I said with a smile. "Morning Riles, so who's the guy you have to watch over?" she asked.

"..Lucas Friar." "No way! The same Lucas Friar from John Quincy Adams?" she asked as she gasped and stood up in shock. "Yep, the same one who broke my heart..today should be interesting." She nodded, "Well hopefully he isn't the jerk from senior year. I'd definitely prefer him to be his old huckleberry self." I sighed before telling her, "Huckleberry was never real Maya. He played all of us. He's not who he said he was." Maya walked around the counter and gave me a hug.

"It'll all be okay Riles. And if something were to ever happen, you know that I'll always be here for you." I give her a smile and a small wave before taking the elevator to my floor. When I get to my small office, I talk a few calls for my boss. "Yes..of course..I'll let John know about our upcoming meeting right away. But I need to go at the moment so I'll let you know more information by the end of the day. Have a nice day Mr. Smith."

As I end the call I hear a similar voice. "Riley?" I look up and see him. I watched as a piece of hair falls in front of my face, yet slowly push it behind my ear. He looks great, handsome as ever. Even through his office attire I could see that his arms got buff. He looked the same, but at the same time he didn't. He only grew a few inches, looking like he was maybe 5' 11" or 6 foot. Either way, he looked hot..just saying.

"Lucas," I finally manage to get out after practically drooling over him. He took a couple steps forward, "Your the one who's showing me around?"

"Seems so.." I fiddle with my fingers a bit. "Um..you look great." He smiled slightly and I did the same, "Thanks..you too. Its uh- its been a while." I walk to the other side of my desk so that were a few feet apart. "Yea, surely has been.." We awkwardly give each other a short hug. I look around around the room, trying to figure out what to say. I can tell he's as weirded out by the situation as I was. He kept rubbing the back of his neck and didn't speak.

"Uh- I should um, probably show you around." He nodded and we walked out of the office. "As you can see, we have a lot of workers in this business. Plenty of cubicles and plenty of names for you to try and remember." We both laugh a little and continue to walk through the building. "Our boss has the one of the bigger offices in this pace. He's right down the hall."

As we walk through the endless halls, I make sure to greet the majority of people in the building. I smile and wave, trying to be a nice person, just like I always have been.

"I guess somethings never change," I hear Lucas say. "What do you mean?" "You've always been smiley riley. Hopefully you always stay that way," he said with one of his million dollar smiles. I turned around knowing that I was blushing. He can't do this to me. I will not fall for his sweet facade.

When we get back to my office, I hand him his paperwork and point him to his office, which by my luck, is right next to mine. I can just hear Ursula telling me in my head that I'm a poor, unfortunate soul. I agree with the villain..

Before he heads out he turns around and says, "We should catch up sometime. And Riley? I'm sorry." He walked out and closed the door behind him. I will not let myself forgive him so easy. I might be smiley riley and all, but that can change around certain people.

Certain people like Lucas Friar.
