Fight to the top

Chapter 2: Babysitter

Riley's POV:
The sound of my extremely loud alarm is ringing in my ears. I sit up and grab my phone to turn off the annoying radar sound. It's 6:00 so I have a little less than an hour to get ready and make my way out the door. My boss, Johnny, told me to be at the office slightly earlier than usual because he has some things to discuss with me. Something about a new person joining our office building.

I finally stand up and stretch my legs before walking over to my connected bathroom. I look at my disgusting morning hair and face. I quickly grab a hair tie and put my hair up in a messy bun. For 15 minutes or so, I brush my teeth, wash my face, and brush my hair.

After, I head to my closet and put on a a pair of black pencil skirt, a white v-neck collar shirt and a lighter black blazer. I complement the outfit with a fake gold necklace. I put my hair to the side, but pull it into a bun with small braids on either side. I shadow my makeup with a light and dark grey color. I put mascara on and red lip stick to finish up. As I'm making my way out the door, I look at my phone, cursing under my breathe as I see that its 6:50 and I had to be at the office by 7:10, so I no longer had time to make coffee.

I quickly grab my purse, phone, wallet and black heals, heading out of my apartment. I take a cab to the building and hand the driver 10 dollars before rushing past the front doors. I wave to Maya, my friend who works at the front counter. "Hurry up Riles! Its almost 7:10!" I hear her yell.

I make it to the elevator and push floor 27 and pray that the elevator was fixed so it went faster. Luckily, I got to my floor in no time. I brush off my skirt before walking into Johnny's office. "Morning boss," I said with a smile as I shook his hand. "Good morning Riley, please take a seat. We have a few things to go over," he stated as he motioned for me to take a seat.

He folds his hands together before speaking, "We have a new worker who will be joining us. He moved here from Texas and it seems that he has the same position that you have. He's a representative for the same company, he was just at a different place. He'll be here tomorrow to start working over here. He already knows what he's doing but I need you to watch over him. You know, show him around our building and let him know where to get certain things and how to use our equipment."

"So, I technically have to.. babysit?" I asked. "Not exactly, but sort of," he told me. I simply nodded. "Well, how long will I have to watch this guy?"

"Just until he's settled in. Now before I hand you some information about him, I have something else to tell you." I raise my eyebrows slightly, waiting for him to tell me what he needs to say. "There is a promotion for manger and you, along with a few of your co-workers, are qualified for the job. I'll let you know what my boss says, and hopefully you'll get the job," he said with a smile.

"Wow, thanks Johnny," I said as I stood up and gave him a handshake with a big smile to go with. "Of course, now get to work."

"Wait, his folder?" I reminded him. "Oh, yes, of course." He pulls out a small folder and checks inside to make sure that everything is there. "Whats his name?" I asked. As I grab the folder I look down to see the name I never would've expected to see on the top right corner. "Lucas Friar," he told me.

My eyes widened immediately, "Shit."
