Chapter 5: Tricks

Riley's POV:
Two weeks have past by since Lucas came to work here, and one week since the gang has gotten back together. It really feels great to know that after all of these years, we can be so close to each other. I feel like I'm back in 7th grade with my three friends, beginning to figure out life.

Today, Johnny is telling me who got the promotion. I'm really hoping that its me who gets it. I could really use a better position in the company, and it would make my parents even more proud of me. I've been working extremely hard, ever since I starting working here. I don't want to sound cocky, but I'm one of the best workers here. I'm always, well mostly always on time, I get the job done quickly and easily, and I'm a nice co-worker to everyone. I don't know what could have been done to make me not get it.

I get a knock on my door and say, "Come on in." Johnny comes in with a smile on his face. "Good morning boss, how are you today?" I ask. "I'm doing great, thank you for asking. Now, I'm pretty sure you already know what I'm here to tell you. The results for the manager position have come in, and I uh- I have good news and bad news."

My smile instantly started to fade. "What kind of bad news?" "Well, the results came in yesterday and it showed that you got the job, but um.. that was before another worker was put on the list."

"What worker? I though that only certain people were picked and thats all." He rolled on the back of his feet. "Yes, but my boss decided to make an exception because the worker is new. He came in and asked our CEO about the position and he's been working hard, so now you have to compete with him for manager," he explains.

"Wait wait wait..is it-? I asked uneasily. Johnny simply nodded and I stormed out of my office.

I made my way to his office and knocked on the door. Even if I'm furious, I still have to be polite and not just barge in. "Come in," I hear. I open his door with force and slam it shut. "Friar!"

"Riley? Is everything okay?" he said standing up slowly. I smash my hands down on his desk, "You talked to our CEO about that promotion! I told you how much I wanted that job! I would've got it, but now its you and me against each other for the position."

"Riley, I didn't mean to get in the way, but maybe we should see which one of us deserves it." "I've worked so hard for this job and you just come in and try to take it away. This isn't fair Lucas. I deserve the job, not you."

That was kind of harsh, but I'm mad, so I guess words are just flying out. "Excuse me?! Riley, I've worked hard as well. Don't assume that only you deserve that job. I just thought that it would be fair to have me up for the position because I've been doing well here," he exclaimed as he walked over to me.

"Yes, but I've been working for that damn position way longer than you have! I want that job Lucas!" "Yea, well you can't always get what you want!"

I walked away from him and opened the door before speaking for a the last time, "I'm getting that promotion Friar."

He smirked, "In your dreams princess." I glared at him before slamming his door, once again. There is no way that I'm letting him take this away from me. I deserve this job, and I'm going to get it.

Lucas's POV:
"I'm getting that promotion Friar," she tells me. "In your dreams princess," I said with a smirk on my face. She gave me a look before closing the door and walking away. I have a plan. Its not the greatest plan, but oh well. Riley needs to realize that she can't get everything, just by simply wanting it. She grew up getting everything she wished for and that's not a right way to be raised.

Maybe I can throw her off her game. A few smirks, a complement every now and then. I'll use myself to distract her from this job. Maybe then she'll understand that I could use the job just as much as she could. If she has a few tricks up her sleeve, then she should use them. Riley will need as much help as she can get.

I'm going to get that promotion, whether she likes it or not.
