Cara's POV:
My feet tapped rapidly against the floor, the bright fluorescent light shining against the clear marble floors. I held my head in my hands, looking down at my shoes, the dirtiness of them countering against the clean, crisp floors.
My head felt heavy in my hands, but the weight of it was nothing compared to my racing thoughts.
I was just with him.
He was just okay.
And yet, now he isn't.
My thoughts raced as the hours went by, yet it felt like years.
I was just with him. Sitting with him as we talked about what I should pack. Everything was okay. The last time I saw him, he was getting rushed into a hospital room. Doctors surrounded him, loud voices shouting through the halls, as they rushed him to hospice.
Then I lost sight of him.
The doors shut behind them, as they quickened their pace through the halls, almost sprinting to get him into a room on time.
My thoughts halted when I heard footsteps approach me.
"Ms. Green?" The doctor called out, immediately grabbing my attention. I quickly stood up from my chair, rushing over to the man.
"Yes? Is he okay? Is my dad okay?" I questioned, my thoughts racing out loud.
"Yes, he is awake. His pulse is stable and in good condition." The doctor explained to me.
"Can I go see him?" I ask quickly, anxiously awaiting his answer.
"Yes, you may. Let me walk you to his room." The man says before turning around, causing me to quickly follow him.
The long hallway was brightly lit, causing me to squint my eyes as the doctor halted to a quick stop.
"Here is his room." He says, before opening the door infront of him, patiently holding it open for me. I nearly sprinted into the room, hearing the door lightly shut behind me.
"Dad?" I whisper, approaching the hospital bed he was currently in. He was dressed in a crisp hospital gown, with his short grey hair messily slicked back. His face looked more pale than usual, as his body laid out onto the bed.
"Hey sweetie." He whispered, his raspy voice called out, as he opened his eyes slightly to look at me.
"Dad" I whisper, my throat croaking as I break into sobs. I got closer and closer to his bed, before throwing my arms around him. He let out a light groan, as I hugged him tightly. I felt as he loosely hugged me back, his arms wrapping around my back.
"I'm here now, I promise" He whispers into my neck. His grip on me loosens, causing me to pull back slightly, now sitting on the edge of his bed.
"You really scared me for a second. You really really scared me." I whisper, fighting with my hands in my lap.
"I'm sorry, you know I'll always be here." He says, smiling lightly at me, causing me to do the same.
"Yeah, I know." I say, grinning at him. I was about to speak again, but the door to the room opened before I could.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt, but we need to run some tests." A nurse says, causing me to quickly sit up from his bed.
"Okay. I'll see you when you get done with the tests. I love you, dad." I say, heading towards the door.
"I love you too, carebear." He says with a small smile. I grin at him, before leaving the room.
"The tests shouldn't take long miss, you will be able to see him again shortly." He says, flashing me a small smile before closing to door behind her.

"Miss Green?" I hear a voice say, lightly approaching me as I quickly opened my eyes.
I groggily got up, stumbling slightly as I approached the nurse from earlier.
"Yes? How is he?" I say, now standing fully infront of the woman.
"He is doing well, you may see him now if you'd like." She says, causing me to quickly nod my head, following behind her as she leads me to the familiar room.
"Thank yo-" I start to say, as the door opened fully, revealing my fathers body shaking once again. Me and the nurse ran in, as foam starting drooling out of his mouth again.
My eyes filled with tears as I ran towards his hospital bed, with many doctors suddenly trailing in behind me. They lift his head up, quickly sliding another pillow under his head. They start yelling codes and words I couldn't understand.
Suddenly, his body stops jerking. Everyone slowly stops in their tracks, watching the heart monitor.

The room went quiet. No more movements. No more footsteps. No more clicking of the heart monitor.
Everything was.. still.
"Time of death, 2:38 AM." I hear one of the doctors say, stepping away from the familiar hospital bed. All the doctors and nurses in the room slowly bow their heads, providing a moment of silence.
And that's when I lost it.
Uncontrollable sobs and screams emerged from my parted lips, as I fell to my knees. The floors suddenly didn't look so crisp. The clean marble floors suddenly became my biggest fear.
I slowly brought my head up from the floor, kneeling infront of his hospital bed.
"But you promised me..forever."
To Be Continued.
A/N: Happy labor day weekend!
