Chapter 8: Mal

Mal sat down at the head of the table. "I need your help."

"What was so bad that you needed to interrupt my date with Audrey?" Complained Jay.

"WHAT!" Shouted Evie and Carlos.

"You didn't know?" Asked Mal.

"Yeah!" Shouted the two again.

"Wow..." Jay sighed. "So what did you want us for?"

"Bens gone missing!" Mal looked really worried. Her hair was in knots and her nail polish was chipped, a lot. She hadn't slept for all of last night, instead she had searched for Ben.

"What?" The three gasped.

"We need to find him."

"Where do we even start?" Asked Carlos as he looked down and stroked Dudes head sadly.

"Let's see... What could have happened to him?" Asked Evie as she pulled out a pad of paper and a pen.

"He could have gotten kidnapped." Suggested Jay.

"He could have gotten lost." Tried Evie.

"He could have joined an exclusive club for woodland people and lost all connections with Auradon." Carlos said blandly.

"Stop!" Shouted Mal. "Let's start with kidnapping. Who would hold a grudge against Ben or try to get him?"

"I got this." Carlos stood up from the table and walked over to a shelf of books, one of many as they were in the library. Above the shelf was a sign that read YEARBOOKS.

He pulled out the ones from the previous year and the the year before that and the year before that. He plopped them all on the desk and said "We have some reading to do."

After about an hour of searching they had narrowed down their suspects.

"Audrey, Cristy of Arendelle, and some guy named Beau." Announced Evie, looking over the list.

"Let's start with Audrey." Mal said. "I've been wanting to get her back for a long time now."

"Audrey, Audrey, Audrey." Mal circled around the table, tapping her nails on the edges of it.

Jay was attempting to balance his chair on one leg, and failing horribly.

Carlos was reading one of the old yearbooks for about the third time.

Evie was waiting with her pen and paper patiently.

"What, what, WHAT!" Complained Audrey as she played on her phone.

"Nothing much. Just wondering where you were last night!" Yelled Mal, getting all up in Audrey's face.

"What! I was in my room, on my phone, texting my boyfriend." She smiled, sickeningly sweet.

"Or kidnapping your ex!" Mal said.

"What! You think that was me! No! Just ask Jay!" Audrey continued to smile but now her eyes were giving it away that she was worried.

"I'll be taking that." No had noticed Carlos get up from his chair and sneak up behind Audrey. He took her phone out of her hands.

"NO! I need that!" Shouted Audrey, standing to go chase Carlos around the table.

"It's for evidence." Evie snatched the phone from Carlos and started to go through Audrey's texts.

"Really?" She asked, clearly sounding unimpressed, as she held up Audrey's Selfie folder on her camera.

"Hey! I need that!" She claimed, slumping in her chair.

"Delete." Evie smiled evilly as she pretended to delete the selfies.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO" Audrey sounded like Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

Everyone started to laugh.

"HEY!" Audrey shouted.

"So..." Mal turned to Evie expectantly.

"I got nothing." Evie frowned as she scrolled through text after boring text.

"She's telling the truth." Jay said. "AHHHHHH!" He fell out of his chair and tumbled backwards. He some how landed on his feet and smiled at Audrey. "I meant to do that."

Audrey just rolled her eyes.

"Yes she was." Evie sighed and held up the phone. On the screen was a selfie on Audrey with a bowl of popcorn and the date said it was the previous night.

"Great. Just great." Mal sighed and stood up from her chair. She turned to Audrey, "Your free to go."

"Can I have my phone back?" She asked.

"Sure." Evie smiled as she tossed the phone through the air. It hit the table with a crack.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Mal turned to the four. "Our work here is done."
