7:00 am, Monday March 4.
It is early, and I am awake. Something is obviously wrong here. I don't want to go to school today or ever really. But if i am going to get out of this dinky old town, i have to go and get good grades so I can get into Yale. So i'll get up, and I will take my shower and dry my hair and maybe even straighten it,because today is a big day. Today I will meet with a professional to tell me the requirements i will need to meet to get into Yale.. but i am sure there's minimal things i will have to work on. might as well get started.
sincerely,
Leah Brown.
She closed her brown letter book and around the matching leather string and tied it into a perfectly symmetrical bow. Leah sighed with relief at her book, and threw it atop the other stacks, today had been the last entry. She would have to go get another one from the bookstore, but it wouldn't take long she had already prepaid for five more books. She moved to her bathroom, showered, and dried her hair and actually straightened it instead of leaving it in its mediocre waves. She looked in he mirror after and hours work of applying makeup and preparing herself.
"This is as good as it gets"
She reached for her book-bag, and put her headphones in and casually walked out the door. Her dad was out for business.
She walked in the direction of the school and was caught off guard by her best friend, Hannah.
"hey there pretty lady" she smiled.
"Hello Hannah, did you do your English homework"
"OF COURSE....I didn't"
"Hannah!"
"Ok, this is like the second time this has happened"
"it is never good to form habits"
"yes, Miss.perfect i will try"
"Thank you"
She smiled and chatted about random things until you reached school. you parted ways as you went to English class. As she walked into the class, she sat down in her usual seat right up front. She settled in an whipped out, Atlas Shrugged, to read and annotate. She zoned out and only snapped out of it when there was a whole bunch of fake laughter outside the door.
It was Charlie O'hattan. Only the most praised, and ironically, hated girl in school. She waltzed into the classes blowing cliche kisses to her followers and turned and rolled her eyes in Leah's direction. She walked up to Leah, and bent down to rest her elbows on her desk, but she didn't notice because Leah had returned to her reading.
"Well, hello, Miss. I-do-everything-because-I'm-a-good-little-girl, did you do the homework for last night". She smiled sarcastically.
"What do you think?" Leah replied not even looking up to acknowledge her prescence.
"Well, attitude, I think you did it, and I also think you want to give it to me to copy"
"A. they're supposed to be personal, so you copying it would be stupid and B. I would never let you because I'm not stupid"
Charlie scoffed and walked back to her friends in the back of the classroom. Leah could hear her whispers, and she didn't mind, she knew Charlie was just pissed because Leah showed her up. She smiled to herself and went on reading, not even seconds later she was disrupted by Charlie.
"JACKSON!" she screamed and giggled. Charlie shot up and ran to the front to hug the boy.
It was Jackson Guthy who walked in, a very popular boy in school. Leah had spoken to him a few times, and from what she gathered he was kind, funny, and intelligent. In other words, she totally had a crush on him. But she tried her hardest to keep it inside and push it to the backburner, Yale had a nice amount of intelligent, funny, nice boys.
"So jackie, I was wondering..how 'bout you come over to my place tonight, and hang out" Charlie said as provocatively as she could.
"Yeah.....I have a lot of....stuff ....to do...and don't call me Jackie" he shook her off his arm and walked away to talk to his friends.
Leah couldn't help but laugh at this, it was quite the sight.
"What are you looking at? Know-it-all." she was mad and bitter.....just the way Leah liked it.
The class period went on and near the end Mr.Ball announced a new assignment to be due the next day.
"I would like each of you to write a letter, this letter must be addressed to someone you love"
Easy, Leah thought, I'll write to my Grandmother.
The bell rang, and Leah left writing her letter in her head.
