DE SELBY (PART 2) — HOZIER
'I wanna run against the world that's turning, I'd move so fast that I'd outpace the dawn.'Cassie and Harry return downstairs to see Enzo sprawled across the sofa, the flask of herbs in his grasp. Ron and Hermione are playing the piano together, a sight that briefly makes Cassie happy. At least there are some positives to the war.
Cassie sits on the arm of the sofa Enzo lies on and he sits up, resting his head on her thigh. "You okay?" he asks, knowing Harry went upstairs to speak to her after her... meltdown.
"Yeah, fine. I don't really know what came over me. Think it's all just getting to me." she shrugs, fiddling with her bracelet.
"That's okay, Cass. It's a lot to deal with, and on top of it all were the ones on the front lines."
Cassie sighs, carding her fingertips through Enzo's hair. She hums in agreement.
She's interrupted at the noise of crashing and grunting. All five of them shoot up and run to the kitchen. By the cellar door, there are two elves, one being Kreacher, wrapped around Mundungus Fletcher. He's repeatedly telling them to get off him and trying to push them off him.
"Harry Potter! So long it's been!" the house elf on Mundungus' ankle shrieks. Cassie and Enzo share a look. If they remember right, that's the house elf that used to belong to Malfoy Manor. They stayed at Draco's in the summer of first and second year— they once pretended like they didn't see Lucius brutally kicking the elf at dinner.
Kreacher pokes Mundungus in the eyes so he falls forward with a loud groan. Kreacher and the other elf jump off of the bloke and stand to the side.
"As requested by Lady Black, Kreacher has returned with the thief... Mundungus Fletcher." Kreacher grunts. Hermione disarms Fletcher and catches his wand.
Cassie's thoughts linger on Kreacher's words. Lady Black.
It only hits her now that she's the Head of the House of Black. Since Sirius was disowned and Regulus died, the title then goes to the eldest heir— which just so happens to be Cassie herself. She feels like she should get some sort of reward or compensation from that fact— maybe a wad of gold? Well, she supposes Grimmauld Place is now under her name, which will have to suffice for now.
"What you playing at, setting a pair of rogue house elves on me?" Fletcher exclaims, standing far away from the others.
"Dobby was only trying to help!" the other elf claims. Ah. The name comes back to Cassie and Enzo now, and they share a look. They both remember Draco ranting about how Dobby's loyalty had changed and he no longer belonged to Malfoy Manor all the way back at the end of second year. "Dobby saw Kreacher in Diagon Alley, which Dobby thought was curious, and then Dobby heard Kreacher mention Harry Potter's name— and Lady Black!" he exclaims, turning to Cassie.
Cassie smiles and holds her hand out to shake. He looks down in surprise and shakes her hand with a gasp. "How honoured Dobby is to meet you, Lady Black!"
"Please, Dobby, call me Cassie." she replies. "And that's Enzo— Enzo Berkshire." Cassie nods at Enzo, who smiles at Dobby.
"Pleasure." Enzo nods.
Kreacher tries to interrupt, but Dobby stops him. "But Dobby saw Kreacher talking with the thief—"
"I'm no thief!" he retaliates. "You foul, little... I'm a purveyor of rare and wondrous objects."
Cassie snorts.
"You're a thief, Dung. Everyone knows it." Ron spits.
"Master Weasley! So good to see you again." Dobby exclaims. Ron and Dobby shake hands and Ron looks down to his shoes.
