Chapter One
Jade Caswell
"Did you finish your school work Jade?" My father Logan Caswell questioned as we all sat down at the table. No shit dad, what else do I do all the time? That's what I really wanted to tell him, but I held my tongue.
"Yes dad." I responded and looked down at the plate of food in front of me. Our chef had prepared filet mignon and steamed vegetables.
"Eat honey, you don't want to hurt Olivia's feelings, now do you?" My mother Christina said from beside me. I shook my head no and took a bite of broccoli.
My life seemed perfect from the outside, but on the inside I was suffocating. My father was the president of one of the most prestigious companies in Miami. He was basically on his Jay-Z shit. I was born into money, and would probably die with money too.
I didn't want it though. I wanted to be a normal girl who lived a normal life, who made her own decisions. Even before I was born my father had decided what I was gonna do when I graduated, what school I was gonna go to. Hell, he even tried to dress me sometimes!
"I've noticed that your grades have dropped Jade. Harvard won't like that." My father had this insane idea that I was going to attend Harvard when I graduated. I didn't even know if I wanted to go to college.
"Sorry dad, I'll bring them up." I looked down at my iPhone and smiled at the text message from my best friend Lauren. I met her my freshmen year when my father had enrolled me in an all girl prep school.
Bitch is your dad still tripping? - Lauren
When is he not tripping? - Jade
"Ladies, if you'll excuse me I have an important issue at the office. I'll see you two tomorrow." My dad stood up from the table and gathered up his briefcase and phone and walked out of the dining room.
"Can I be excused mom?" I questioned and pushed away my plate. I really wanted a greasy burger from McDonald's.
"Yeah Jade, go ahead." Whenever my dad wasn't around my life was so much better. If he could stay away forever I'd be perfect. I smiled slightly and ran upstairs to my bedroom.
Sneak out girl! - Lauren
I wish. My dad left for 'work' though. - Jade
I had a feeling that whenever my dad got called into work he was really cheating on my mom. I was pretty sure my mom did too.
"Do your work Jade, be a good girl Jade, don't let your grades fall Jade, Harvard's not gonna like that. Shut the fuck up." My dad treated me like I was a little child, I was eighteen for Christ sakes! Well, I was gonna be eighteen in a couple of weeks.
I guess I should introduce myself, my name is Jade Caswell, and like I said I’m seventeen years old, I was born and raised in Miami Florida, and I was biracial. My mother Courtney was Armenian, and my dad was African American.
I had been a daddy's girl for most of my life, and I think that's why my dad still treated me like a little girl. I'm always trying to show him differently though, but he just doesn't get it.
Well Tina invited me and you to a party tomorrow night, and we're going! - Lauren
I always wanted to go to parties, but the only ones I was allowed to attend were my dad's company gatherings. The motto was always smile, and tell everyone about the good things daddy does.
Girl, you know damn well my dad will never let me go to a party. - Jade
Don't worry I got everything handled. Your dad will never know. - Lauren
Okay, I'll go. - Jade
