Chapter Two

Jade Caswell

"I wish I had your life. You have this nice ass car, you live in a mansion, and your parents pay for everything. Lucky hoe." Lauren stated as we walked to our table in the cafeteria. If she only knew. Lauren Phillips was my best friend in the whole entire world, but even she didn't know what I went through.

"Girl, you do not want my life. I have no freedom." Whenever I was around Lauren the black side of me came out.

"That's why we're going out tonight! We're gonna dress up, hit that party, shake our asses, and have a good time. Hmm, what am I going to wear?” Lauren rambled on as my phone vibrated from within my pocket. It was an email from my dad. He didn’t believe in texting, and if he didn’t call me he was emailing me. We were in the twenty first century for Christ sakes. The only thing he believed in me having was a working cellphone, reliable car and my drivers license. That’s why I had a Mercedes Benz, and Lauren was envious of me.

Lauren was not poor though, her father was in the Navy, and her mother taught at the University of Miami. She was living comfortably, just like I was.Well, she could actually do things, and I couldn’t. So technically she was living more comfortably than I was.

I looked at the email and almost threw my phone in my pepsi. The email basically was about how Harvard needed my entrance essay. I didn't want to go to freaking Harvard! I didn't even know if I wanted to go to college.

I deleted the email and went back to eating my lunch. Today was Friday, and Lauren had a plan to get me out of the house. I had no idea what I was going to wear though, because my closet was extremely limited, and all the party outfits I had were meant to be worn at Gala's and business events.

My mom and I had recently went shopping with my dad's black card though, and I had went crazy. It was my first taste of freedom in a while, and I took a whole bite of it. I had new clothes that I think were party acceptable. If they weren't Lauren would just let me borrow something. I actually wanted to see how she was gonna sneak me out though.

"I don't want to be in that big old house by myself Mr.Caswell, lately there's been a string of robberies, and they're getting closer day by day. I don't want to be by myself. Can Jade please come stay with me for the weekend? We'll be good girls, I promise." If I was able to, I'd give Lauren a grammy for her acting skills. I actually believed her for a minute, but then I remembered who she was.

“You’ve always been a good influence on Jade, so I’ll allow it. But Jade you have to check in every few hours so I know you’re okay. I can’t have anything happening to my Yale allstar.” My dad exclaimed and patted my back before picking up his phone and doing Lord knows what. That was the sign that the conversation was done. I quickly grabbed Lauren and dragged her out of the office. I couldn’t believe my dad was going to let leave the house for a whole weekend! I was so happy.

We quickly packed a bag of my newest clothes and hopped into my Mercedes, driving through Downtown Miami.

“I’m that bitch huh? That was one of the best lies I’ve told.”

“I’m so happy you told it, I actually got out the house without sneaking out. Thanks so much Lauren.”

“You’re welcome girl, just make sure to shake your ass for me tonight.”

"I'm going to kill you Lauren. I'm going to murder you. You said we were going to Tina's party, but we're at a club. We're not even gonna be let in!" I didn't know how but I had let Lauren drive me to a club, and I was wearing jeans, a tanktop, and some Nikes. I loved dressing like a girly girl,  but sometimes I dressed like a guy because it was so much more easier shopping and dressing like them.
