"Nice Chucks."
"Thanks! I've had them since I was in high school," she said, twisting her ankle around to model her trusty old red Converse low-tops.
"Ready for a Dutch Baby?" He asked, as he put on his sunglasses.
"Always. I'll drive."She lead him to the outbuilding where her cars were, and he made an awestruck sound at the sight of her goofy ramp truck.
"Whoa! This thing is the coolest."
"Hah. Thanks. That's Rampy."He arched an eyebrow and cocked his head at her strange response. She leaned over the side of the truck bed and pulled a lever that brought the ramp side of the vehicle down.
"Oh! Rampy. I get it."
"Penny named her when I bought it. She was like, nine or ten. I'd take you for a spin, but if I drive it in today we'll never even make it to the Badger."
"Lots of friends in town?"
"Well, sort of. I'm friendly with most of the local business owners. Stopping to chat with everyone doesn't really bother me...I just thought I'd try to keep a low profile...for your sake."
"I appreciate that.""The Jeep is just as good though." She flitted around the vehicle, unscrewed a few bolts, unclipped a few latches and with one POP, the Jeep's top was released from the frame.
"Here, help me lift my top off...er...the top. Oh my god." She covered her face with her hands.
"Help me lift the top off of the Jeep. Please?" She flushed crimson, and looked at Robert to find him unsuccessfully stifling his laughter.
"I'm not even going to touch that one."
"That's what she said." She couldn't help herself. He stayed right next to her as she hoisted herself up onto the back bumper to lift the hard top. She was wearing jean shorts and he fought back an urge to run his hand up her smooth, tan leg. It was right next to him and he was a man after all. She smelled so good and seemed to catch right on with his indecent humor so his attraction was a given.
She pulled out of the wooded drive and floored the gas, letting the Jeep hug the long swooping curves of the road. They rode in silence for a few miles before he spoke up.
"Radio?" He said loudly, trying to be heard over the whipping wind. She shook her head yes in response. He punched the tuning button and found mostly static.
"We don't have a whole lot to choose from up here."
"I've gathered that.""Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him jus--"
He pushed the tune button, changing the station again and she gave his hand a quick swat.
"What are you doing? You can't shut off Dolly!"
"Whoa! My mistake!" He shouted and quickly switched it back.
"It's a rare occasion that something halfway decent comes on...I get excited about it, okay?"
"You certainly were into the Foo Fighters the other night."
"Ha! Yeah. Quite an evening."
"You did look kind of stunned..."
"I was. Oh I definitely was.""I had half a mind to lay a cheesy pick up line on you just to see how you'd react."
"I'd have fallen to the floor and died."
"Well I'm glad I didn't then."
"I'm ready for one now though. Lay it on me."
He paused, contemplating the request."Can I borrow your cell phone? I need to call animal control because I just saw a fox!"
"That is god awful." Her laugh was musical and he was desperate to hear it again."Your turn." He said.
"I'm learning about important dates in history. Wanna be one of them? Wait. I've got a better one. Is your daddy a baker? Cuz you've got a pretty sweet ass." She wiggled her eyebrows at him over the top of her sunglasses. He erupted in laughter and the sheer sight of his mile wide grin made her melt. His laugh was infectious to the point that she had to remind herself to focus on the road and not her ridiculously attractive and famous passenger."Keep going." She prodded.
"Baby, you're hotter than Chicago in 1871."
"Let's commit the perfect crime, I'll steal your heart and you steal mine." She countered immediately.
"Wait. That's not fair." He said.
"What? Why?"
"Because that's a decent one. A bit corny, but decent."
