Chapter 14 - Bite Back

"If that dog does anything in my car, Ross..." Lexi whimpered, her eyes leaving the road to look down at Trevor, whose face was being mashed between my palms. His cheeks pulled back, smiling as I laughed at the marred features.

"He won't."

"I mean it - pee, slobber, poo - and he's chucked on the side of the road."

"Don't be so mean," I sighed as I leaned back. "He's a good dog, he won't do anything." Lexi sent me a death glare. I laughed and shook my head; "What was I meant to do? I forgot all about my dog-sitting and you were adamant I was going with you today."

"It's your first night of freedom since you turned eighteen," she murmured as she looked into her mirrors and flicking the indicators slipped into the right lane. "We had to make it a night to remember."

"I thought that was supposed to be the night of my birthday."

"And whose fault is it that you were locked in your room on that particular night?"

"Yours..."

"Oh, no you don't," she snapped as she looked from the road to me. "Don't you dare try and make this my problem. You wanted to get out; I just gave you the ride."

"And my mum trusts you after that?" I gasped dramatically and rolled my eyes. "Honestly though, I'm shocked she let me out after that."

"It's not like she can stop you now you're eighteen. You're an adult." She squealed at the last sentence. I laughed at her bouncing in the seat next to me. "I have been waiting for this day since September; I can take my lil' baby out!" I laughed and knocked her slightly. "Now I wonder what your mum would do if it was Harrison or Lee taking you out tonight."

"I'd probably be digging her grave; she's have a stroke if she found out I was talking to those two again." Lexi rolled her eyes, murmuring about how much a drama queen I was. Trying to push the thought of the boys away I found a change in subject; "So where are we staying tonight; Hilton, Ramada, or - ooh - Premier Inn?"

Lexi snorted; "You are such an idiot. I couldn't afford any of those and you know it." I laughed, my hands dramatically running on the shiny interior of her Beetle. She rolled her eyes at my pointed look. "We're actually staying at my boyfriend's flat."

My brows furrowed. Boyfriend...? I turned to her, my eyes running over her bright eyes and beaming smile. She turned to look at me, flicking her sunglasses back over her eyes now we were out from the tunnel. I copied her, turning back to the road as we ascended the slope and went left on the roundabout.

"Oh," I said, pretending to be impressed. "And, why-oh-why haven't I been told about this elusive boyfriend of yours before?"

She smirked. "Because I didn't want my friend's snarky comments coming my way, I thought time would fix it," she looked over at me. "Oh, how I was wrong." I laughed. "So very wrong," she muttered.

"So tell me about him," I brought my feet up, kicking my shoes off as I went as not to be faced with Lexi's demon stare. Lexi still sent me a harsh look that had me flinching. "What's he like?"

"Well he's beautiful; he's got a jaw that's like... I don't know; there's no words but - my god his jaw!" Her eyes rounded and looking at me in bewilderment she added; "You will love his jaw." She cradled her own chin like it was something to be ashamed of.

"Hopefully not too much," I joked.

Her face slackened and she looked at me slit-eyed. "I will cut you if you do."
