"You can't fall asleep?" Hunny repeated.
Oh. Must've said it out loud.
I gave a small tired nod. "Mind . . . trying to keep me awake while they come?"
Then the chatter began.
Yawning, I continued to sleepily nod as I only half-listened to Kai's angry lecturing. I had only picked up some phrases that made any viable sense. Something about my recklessness. I blinked. My recklessness?
Oh for god's sake, I had only forgotten to take my pills that morning - happens everyone in a while. I was a human being after all. I was going to be prone to forgetting the simple things, sheesh. Why couldn't people understand that?
Yeah sure, the pill taking had become a necessary habit over time, something I could do without even thinking about it, but sometimes . . . just sometimes, it slipped from my mind into a black hole of sorts. It was odd.
The lecturing continued even as we pulled into the apartment parking lot where the above street lights were starting to flicker on. The light reflected easily off the white fluff laying on the ground and it immediately stole my attention from Kai. I had been so busy lately . . . I hadn't really stopped to realize that it was snowing.
Like actually snowing.
Okay, yeah, I had known it had been snowing, but it had been one of those background noises thoughts. Something that was there, but you didn't really pay attention to. It didn't slap you in the face or anything. But right in that second, it did.
Well, it was December now.
That's when another thing hit me. I had arrived here in the middle of November. So, give or take, I'd been living in Japan for three weeks and the peace had finally broke today, when I had forgotten to take my pills.
Ha. I'm just that great.
I remembered the terrified look on Kai's face as he had come sprinting into the infirmary room where the host club had carried me to. His arms were flailing around with my bag of precious pills and his clothes, usually perfect and smooth, were ruffled unsightly and his blazer were not buttoned up correctly. I had burst out laughing as soon as I took all of that in.
Kai had been a complete mess as he had tumbled in. Very, very much unlike his usually suit and tie calm demeanor. But the tables quickly turned when the lecturing began, which was also a signal for the host club to ditch me for safety. Lucky butts.
Snapping back to reality, I noticed we had stopped. Grabbing my bag, I looked up into the rear view mirror. Akio was staring at me through it and when my eyes met his, he gave me a small apologizing smile. I flashed an exhausted one of my own, before swinging open the door.
The cold air slipped under my dress and I silently wondered why the cold was only now starting to hit me. Shivering, I closed the door and walked forward to face Kai whom was sitting in the front passenger seat to see if he was done lecturing yet.
Unfortunately, no.
I groaned. This tirade needed to end and it needed to end now. Like now?
"Okay, Kai, Kai," I interrupted, too tired to hide the obvious annoyance in my voice. "Chill out. I've forgotten to take my pill several times before, so don't worry about it."
