Kaworu woke up on the couch with Shinji's head resting on his lap. They'd fallen asleep watching bad movies on SyFy around 8:00 p.m, and the microwave's clock said 11:00 p.m. Kaworu had to pee really badly, but didn't want to wake up Shinji, so he didn't move. He tried reaching for the remote, but it was just an inch too far away. He had to sit there and suffer through Sharktopus.

Kaworu almost immediately lost interest in the film and instead directed his attention to Shinji. 'He has such a pretty face...' he thought. He lightly ran his fingers through Shinji's hair, stopping when the boy moved slightly, but then started again. 'I'm so lucky...'

Without warning, Shinji's eyes opened and he looked up at Kaworu. "What are you doing?" Shinji asked.

Kaworu's face went a bit red. "Well, you fell asleep on my lap," he said. "But I didn't want to wake you up by moving."

Shinji sat up. "I'm sorry," he said. "I was more tired than I thought I was."

"That makes sense." Kaworu said. "You've been working harder than you should."

"You've hardly been sleeping at all..."

Kaworu kissed Shinji on the cheek before he got up to go to the bathroom. "We sleep the same number of hours."

When he came back, Shinji was up and pouring some chips into a bowl.

"Shinji, I've been thinking..." Kaworu said. "You still want to come to shop, but there's no reason for you to come so early or stay so late."

"But I like coming home with everyone." Shinji said. "I don't mind, Kaworu. It doesn't really matter to me whether I'm there two hours or sixteen."

"But I don't want you to lose so much sleep."

Shinji sighed as they sat down on the couch. "Now that we're dating you probably feel some sort of obligation to look out for my health, right?" he asked. Kaworu nodded. "Well, my job is to look out for yours and the rest of the team's. I don't want them to be completely overworked. You shortened the hours that Asuka had set for you but you're all still working hard without resting." He handing the bowl of chips to Kaworu. "You should probably stop making my health a priority when you're the one in need."

Kaworu ate one of the chips. "You don't need to take care of us, though."

"Misato's not going to do it for you, so I have to."

~~~
Kaworu's phone rang at 3:00 a.m. He groaned as he shuffled around the top of the night stand to find it, and didn't even check to see who was calling.
"Hello?" he yawned into the phone.
"It's almost finished..." came a voice from the other end of the line.
"Rei?" Kaworu asked. "Is that you?"
"Yes."
"What's almost finished?"
"The code. I've almost got it done now. How long will it take you to get here?"
"Holy shit... um? Give me thirty five minutes."
"I'll have it written in forty five. Could you notify the others, please?"
"Yeah, okay."
She hung up without saying goodbye, but Kaworu had gotten pretty used to that. It was Rei, after all.
He got up carefully and tried not to wake Shinji, because it seemed like he was still asleep, but he wasn't.
"Who was that?" Shinji asked drowsily.
"It was Rei," Kaworu answered. "She's going to finished the code in forty five minutes."
"You're going to turn it on?"
"Maybe."
Shinji started to get up, but Kaworu came over and tried to lay him back down. "Please just rest." he insisted. "There's a really good chance this isn't even going to work, so you should stay here."
Shinji glared at him. "I've been with the team for nearly a year now," he said. "And I'm going to watch the first possibly successful activation attempt." He pushed Kaworu aside and stood up. "I know that you're worried about me, but right now there are bigger problems to deal with."
It took them less time than expected to get ready, and the whole team was at the shop in just twenty minutes. Misato came in five minutes after the engineers still in her pajamas.
Everyone waited in silence while tapping of Rei's keyboard echoed through the garage. After what seemed like hours, but was really only a few minutes, it stopped. "...I'm finished..." Rei quietly announced.
Kaworu nodded and hooked up her laptop to the machine. She clicked a few places, and they waited while code downloaded. It took a few minutes but the computer said it was successful.
"Try typing in a command." Kensuke said.
Rei did as he suggested and pressed enter. Nothing seemed to happen.
"Is it working?" Togi asked.
"Only one way to find out..." Kaworu said. He took an empty water bottle that had been sitting on the table and held it above the bowl-like machine. He let go of it, and stepped back a few feet, but the bottle remained where it was, floating in the air. The antigravity was working.
Kaworu smiled. "It works." he said.
"Holy shit..." Ritsuko said. "It actually works..."
Tojo was speechless, Kensuke started to cry, Rei smiled, and Misato had fallen asleep before any of this happened.
"It works..." Kaworu said again, laughing in delight. He walked over to Shinji and put his arms around the smaller boy's waist. "It works!" He lifted Shinji up and spun him around, then set him down again and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
"Kaworu!" Shinji said through his teeth, nervously glancing towards the engineers who were staring at them. "You can't just-"
"We agreed to tell them when it worked, right?"
Shinji groaned. "I didn't think it would be so soon, though. I wasn't ready..."
"Sorry..."
"Hey..." Togi interrupted. "Are you two, like... together?"
"Yeah," Kaworu said with a smile.
"Really?" Kensuke asked.
"It was kind of obvious," Ritsuko told him. "Kaworu's been all over him since the beginning."
"Good for you..." Rei said.
Shinji had buried his face in Kaworu's chest to hide his red cheeks by then.
"I didn't think that Kaworu swung that way..." Kensuke said.
"Don't be rude!" Ritsuko scolded, hitting him in the arm.
Kaworu chuckled. "It's alright. I'm fine with it." He looked down at Shinji, who felt like hiding under a rock, and put his arms around him.
'It's fine.'
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Okay so?? I don't even know what to say here anymore. It's late, I'm tired, and I don't want to do my chemistry homework so get ready for more updates I guess.
