it's been weeks since then and jungkook had an itch in his throat. he was closing the diner alone again, and figured a glass of water couldn't hurt.

even after guzzling down three glasses, his mouth was still parched and even seemed to become drier with each swallow. he threw the cup into the sink and grabbed the diner's keys and ran out the door, shutting it loud behind him and then locking it.

he knew what he needed. he was thirsty. insatiable. water wasn't enough. he craved sweetness and relief.

the vending machine's neon lights made jungkook's thirst intensify. when he made it to the colorful box of light, his eyes shone in wonder. he briefly looked at the milk tea, but felt a craving something less smooth, more sudsy, less sweet, and more sour. maybe the lemon-lime soda was his best bet.

jungkook pulls out his last dollar from his pocket and eagerly feeds it to the machine. he presses the button for the soda, eyes watching with fascination as the vending machine's lights twinkle and shine. he can taste the sudsy goodness now, quenching his thirst and every other thing that's been weighing on him.

his face falls when instead of the neon yellow can, a pastel pink one knocks down instead. the strawberry milk can.

jungkook bends down and retrieves it, eyeing it curiously. he had put the right button combination in, yet he'd been given a different beverage of his choosing. he shrugs to himself, deciding that strawberry milk seems enticing enough and cracks the tab open. a cool gush of air tousles his hair. he turns on his heel and starts making his way home, humming to himself as the creamy milk glides down his throat.

when he gets home, he plops down on his couch with a sigh. things haven't gotten much better since the last time he'd bought a drink from the vending machine of love. he's still boiling in his apartment, he still works at the same dingy diner, and his social life is still six feet under. he finds that the only thing that's convincing him to continue is to figure out the mystery of the whimsical vending machine. he turns the can in his grasp, noting the illustration ingrained in the aluminum. a strawberry with a cow bell and two horns. he thinks back on the can of the boba milk tea, and how it's illustration referenced the beast that dwelled in the can. a cow was his best guess. how that would come to be, he has no idea.

jungkook doesn't spend much more time thinking on it, instead dozing off. between moments of clarity and consciousness, he finds himself bringing the can to his lips, guzzling greedily, like a calf to its mother when it's first born. only when it's empty does he rest soundly.

the sleep doesn't last for long, as it's only a half hour before he's woken up by the distinct sound of the can jittering against his living room's hardwood floors. he doesn't remember it ever falling from his hand. jungkook sits up straight, his breathing growing a bit shallow with anticipation. oddly, he feels that with each breath his shirt rubs against his chest in a unpleasant way. his pecs feel sore. he's not able to dwell on it for long because it's only seconds later that white milk pours from the can, soaking into the floorboards and quickly spreading.

jungkook observes the milk as it morphs and squirms, defying gravity as it forms a shape. a tall shape. soon enough, a face, body, hands, are all materializing from the milk. jungkook swallows hard.

what's left of the milk is a tall, bulky man with hooves for feet and a cow tail. peeking from his white hair are two mildly curved horns. his eyes are a rich brown. jungkook stares at him. the cow stares back at him, as if awaiting a reaction, but finds none. jungkook's chest is getting increasingly tender, his nipples rubbing uncomfortably against his shirt.
