I awaited the end of school anxiously, during the last hour I couldn't stop tapping my fingers on the table and chewing my lip. Mentally I prepared myself for what I was going to say, but in reality I knew that I would forget everything once I left this room. Granted Ben had made a mistake in scaring me by dangling me out a window! But he hadn't known about my parents so I guess I was a little harsh. Also after him sticking up for me the other day I guess I did owe him one. Occasionally I would glance over to Ben and each time my own gaze was met with his. Each time I would blush ducking my head away as Ben smirked. Finally the school bell rang and we were dismissed as I was closer to the door I made it out first and waited nervously for Ben to exit. Chris and Lottie walked past mouthing good luck, they always seemed to know what was on my mind and it was times like this I was grateful for that. Finally after what seemed like ages Ben emerged his signature smirk still in place.
"Hi..." I uttered nervously my shoes suddenly becoming ever so interesting. Surprisingly my head was tilted up with one slender finger and my shy gaze met Ben's confident one.
"Hi." He announced back.
Before I could loose my nerve I hurriedly began,
"Look I'm really really sorry I heard about Andrew and I really am grateful, also I'm sorry for overreacting, and and..."
I was cut off by an unexpected laugh from Ben, frowning I waited until he was finished. Really, I thought here I was trying to apologise and he was laughing at me!
Ben must have noticed my expression because he apologised immediately straightening up, a serious expression crossing his face.
"Look I'm sorry for laughing and about dangling you out a window, it's just that you're very talented and I really would like to work with you. Also as for the Andrew thing, well I would do it again given half the chance, you don't have to worry about that."
I was in so much awe at how fast everything had been cleared up that I moved without thinking quickly wrapping Ben up into a tight hug. To which he responded immediately and hugged me tighter. Abruptly I pulled away blushing and mumbled an apology to which his smirk only grew. We then started to head back home, as time passed I began to feel more comfortable around him and by the time I made it to my doorstep I was laughing freely and having fun. Saying a quick goodbye and a promise to walk together again in the morning I entered my house feeling like a weight had been lifted. As Mason and Louise wouldn't be home until much later I decided to watch a movie and settled down on the sofa with some snacks. Picking out a scary looking horror movie I quickly grabbed a pillow for protection and pressed play. Half an hour into the film I was beginning to regret my decision and I flinched at everything that came on screen. Deciding enough was enough I turned it off and ran to the sanctuary of my bedroom, making sure even though it was still daylight my bedroom lights were on. Hugging the pillow tightly I began to listen out for every noise that came from the house. Deep down I knew I was being pathetic but I was to wrapped up in my horror movie notions to realise. Just as I was about to call Lottie to talk to her and distract myself I heard my name shouted from the window behind me. Immediately recognising it was Ben's voice I whirled around.
"Em, you look like you've seen a ghost are you alright?"
I huffed annoyed at myself that someone had spotted me in this state, putting on my fake smile I replied,
"No I'm fine it's nothing."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah I'm okay."
Mercifully I managed to carry on talking to Ben until Lou made it home at which point I said my goodbyes to go an help Louise with dinner. Having another person in the house calmed my nerves and soon I mostly forgot about the 30 minutes of torture I had watched...I had decided on an early night and by nine I was sitting on my bed in my pjs, the downside was that I was clutching a pillow scared to lie down and close my eyes. I had a serious problem with horror movies and an overactive imagination that made it all the worse. Through my closed window I heard the sound of someone playing the bass, curious I drifted to the window to open it, quickly opening my curtains first. Sure enough sitting in his window playing the bass was Ben. Too entranced in his work he didn't notice me until I cleared my throat, quickly his head snapped up to mine,
"Couldn't sleep?" I asked.
"No, I...er well, it's nothing but no I couldn't, what about you?"
"I...erm...well...I kinda watched a horror movie earlier and now I'm to scared to go to sleep." I admitted while blushing wildly.
At this Ben smirked, "Aww Em, did the little horror movie scare you."
"Well I did just say that," I retorted trying to save myself from more embarrassment.
His smirk simply widened, my blush increased.
"Well I'd best go..." Ben trailed off,
"No!" I shouted then cringed inside at how desperate that sounded. "Stay for a while and talk to me I don't want to go to sleep yet." I said shyly.
"Okay, Em, I'll even pretend it's not because your scared from a horror movie you couldn't stomach."
I simply glared but I couldn't hold it for long because he had agreed to stay up a talk with me. We spent the rest of the night talking about random things and afterwards I fell soundly asleep, to busy thinking about our conversation than scary monsters hiding under the bed and the night passed quickly.************************************
