Silence is Not My Strong Point

Gabe said nothing as they got into the car. It was a nice car, quite old but still stylish and classy and in a lovely shade of shining navy that really set off the polished silver accents placed carefully on its body. Angela couldn't help but smile at it as she sat down, someone obviously took good care of this car.

Her smile however was wiped away when she turned her head to lock eyes with Gabe who was looking at her quizzically. Angela's gentle smile shifted quickly into a scowl and she turned to face the front stoically, jaw clenched tightly. She would not let him see her as anything but strong. She heard a strong sigh beside her before the engine started and there was silence once more. It was killing Angela not to be allowed to ask where they were going but she was stubborn.

After forty minutes of complete silence however, her resolve broke. She slammed her hands down on the dashboard in front of her. Gabe didn't say anything he just turned his eyes back to face her and raised his eyebrows, Angela mimicked this, waiting for him to speak up. When it became obvious that she would not win this battle, and it was a better idea for him to have his eyes on the road anyway she spoke first.

"Are you planning to actually tell me where you're planning on murdering me or is it a surprise?"

Gabe smirked, a small crinkle appearing on the very corner of each of his eyes, he slowly turned his eyes back to the road and Angela breathed a sigh of relief. At least she wouldn't die in a car crash... On her way to what was surely her death. As she began to wonder which fate would have been better, Gabe spoke up.

"I thought you were ignoring me."

Angela turned her incredulous eyes to him again and saw him smirking at her, there seemed to be a fraction of warmth to his smile but she couldn't trust anything about this boy. She seriously doubted that he could feel anything resembling kindness or happiness at all.

"Keep your eyes on the road." She snapped, folding her arms across her chest tightly. It was a defence mechanism but it made her feel safer, more secure, and security was definitely something that she needed around Gabe.

"What does it matter? I thought I was murdering you in a forest somewhere or something." She could clearly hear the amusement in his voice, but he was hardly trying to mask it. He was probably just trying to goad her and, of course, it was working.

"I'm British, of course it matters."

Gabe let out a large snort and turned back to the road, still chuckling. "You really are something." He muttered, taking a sudden right turn which slammed Angela against the window suddenly, something she was sure was on purpose. "We'll be there soon."

And that was the end of the conversation for the next ten minutes. Angela would frequently glance up at Gabe but saw his eyes firmly set on the road, something she should have been glad about, she had serious doubts about his driving skills, but she was still worried about where she was being taken, and her classmates hadn't been forgotten either, Angela just hoped that Gabe had kept up his end of the bargain and they were safe.

Her mind returned to the current situation in a snap when she realised that the car was stopping. They were pulling up outside. A small, but fairly new looking house. The walls were made of a sort of dark green brick and almost seemed to glow slightly against the dim winter light. The doors and window frames were a perfectly polished black and the garden surrounding it seemed to have been tended to the point of pure perfection.

In simpler terms, it looked as though no one had ever taken a step inside it.

The house was beautiful, that was undeniable, but it wasn't homely. It was cold and unwelcome, not somewhere that you would want to live.
