Gabe ran his hand through his hair and leant back onto his legs, avoiding her eyes
"It's," he let out a deep sigh, creasing his forehead as be rubbed his temples roughly with his fingers, "It's complicated, okay? I've already told you as much but you really don't understand..." He paused, glancing down at Angela's weary face, she just waited for him to explain further.
"Look, you're special, I've told you already. You're not like other girls." He paused and let out a shaky laugh "And not just because you completely accepted the fact that a strange boy kidnapped you and started to argue with him over the remote." Angela just rolled her eyes and waited for him to continue.
"When I say you're special, I mean you can do things that other people can't, with a bit of practice and concentration you can do pretty much anything. Especially you, I mean, I knew you were powerful but..." He glanced around at the wreckage around him, shaking his head in bewilderment "I was expecting you to knock the can off the wall or something, if that..." He glanced up suddenly "Have you been able to gauge what I'm feeling at times?" He asked, his words sharp.
Angela wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her head on top and nodding. "I've been able to catch words as well... The first time met, I just got feelings, you knew didn't you?"
Gabe looked wary, "I suspected that the process had begun but I couldn't be sure, I'm not very good at mind reading, persuasion is more my forte" he laughed then sobered slightly "but not with you, I can only use the simplest of my powers on you." He mused. Angela shook her head, completely confused.
"What are you talking about? What process?"
Gabe glanced up, his face that of someone who had told a secret he shouldn't have. "It's sort of just the process of your powers developing, it will have already been starting but I'm pretty sure I sped up the process. You might have noticed people taking more of a liking to you, even knowing things that it doesn't make sense for you to know like-"
"School subjects that we haven't studied yet in school." Angela interrupted, a look of clarity appearing on her face "you do not know how confused I was because of that." She laughed openly, the clear sound ringing through the garden and sounding peculiar in the silence, Gabe chuckled beside her, though he still sounded worried.
"But I still don't understand." Angela said, "Why is this all happening? What am I?"
Gabe chewed on his lip looking indecisive, the same look of clarity that had appeared on Angela's face moments before crossed his, but with an edge of resignation this time.
"It's not important." He said, his voice hard, Angela knew immediately that she would not be able to get any more information out of him. "All that's important is that we get your powers stable enough to be able to go out in public again. You're far too unstable at the moment" he sighed and ran his hand through his hair again "This might take longer than I expected." He muttered.
They were silent for a minute, Gabe staring inquisitively at Angela while she gazed around at the chaos surrounding them, she seemed to be transfixed by the shining colours reflecting off the shards of metal. The tranquil moment was broken however by the sound of her stomach making the most abominable sound it could. It was the sort of noise that a dying whale would make during its last moments. They both looked down at it in surprise, a smirk appearing on Gabe's face.
"Maybe we should get something to eat." He laughed, grabbing her hand and helping her to her feet. He kept a firm hold on her arm as he led her back into the house, taking care to lock the door behind him before moving into the kitchen and rattling around with the pots and pans, bringing out a bag of pasta and a jar of sauce whilst muttering about being unable to cook.
