109. Disciple Jiang

"Have none of you read the 'New Rules'?" A smirking Disciple Jiang asked, holding up a scroll.

"These rules state that anyone, even an elder, can challenge anyone else!" He sneered wickedly at Weiyan. "Even a junior disciple!"

"Nonsense!" Tao Yun brought out an identical scroll. "There's no such rule!"

But a citizen suddenly stood up. "Yes there is!" He held open yet another identical scroll. "It's written right here!"

What appeared on the scroll was complete jargon, and the disciples were about to laugh it off as some elaborate joke.

But the citizen looked dead serious, and soon, almost the entire crowd of citizens rose up and displayed their own scrolls of jargon.

'What is happening here?!' Most of the guests wondered.

Up in the viewing boxes, Sect Leader Xu fisted his hands in annoyance, and so did several others.

Weiyan's brows furrowed prettily, but she calmly stared at Disciple Jiang.

"Then I refuse the challenge." She said, and the guests held their breath as Weiyan turned and headed towards the sides of the stage, but then the yellow barrier suddenly pulsed and turned red.

"Ho ho, did I forget to mention?" Disciple Jiang grinned wider than ever, holding up the same scroll. "The New Rules state you also can't refuse a challenge as long as they are standing on this platform."

"Then I forfeit. You win."

"Heh! The New Rules also state that no one can forfeit unless mortally wounded!"

There were shocked murmurs from the numerous Sects present, as Xu Min and the rest instantly attempted to rescue Weiyan from the platform.

But none of them could get past the red barrier.

"Little Sister! Hang in there!" Xu Min called out, as he, Xu Wen, and Tao Yun all directed their strongest attacks at the unrelenting barrier.

Meanwhile, Sect Leader Huo scowled down at Disciple Jiang.

"Little Jiang heir, you're from my sect, so I'll give you a chance. Get off that platform now, and you might lessen your punishment afterwards." Sect Leader Huo warned, but Disciple Jiang simply smirked.

"Forgive my disrespect, Sect Leader." He didn't even bother bowing. "But Zhang Cheng of Yueyan Sect is a junior close to my heart. Considering recent events, must I swallow this foul breath?"

"You're farting through your mouth!" Li San yelled, shocking Xu Min and the rest. It was Zhang Cheng and his current wife who were wrong! What do you know?! Don't hear of 'one and two', then go out and speak of 'three and four'!

Disciple Jiang shrugged. "I don't care who was right or wrong! My junior was offended, so Xu Weiyan is my enemy...! And I've also been promised glorious rewards for taking her down! No one will stop me today!"

Sect Leader Huo said nothing, but his powerful aura suddenly shot out towards Disciple Jiang.

However, it dissolved upon hitting the red barrier, and a soft voice thundered.

"No one is permitted to interfere from outside the platform." They could not see him, but knew the voice. It was the strange and elegant Gatekeeper.

"Oh? Then I challenge this Disciple Jiang." Sect Leader Xu said.

But the Gatekeeper replied. "No one from the elevated seats are permitted to duel."

"Nonsense!" Sect Leader Ju of Yunchi Sect shot to his feet. "This is deliberately making things difficult for us! Are we expected to simply watch while shameless seniors challenge the juniors?!"
