Bang Chan's hotel room was warm with laughter and the faint scent of leftover takeout. The carpet was littered with empty soju bottles and cans of beer, the occasional crinkled snack wrapper kicked under the coffee table. Music that wasn't their own for once, played from a small speaker in the corner, a mellow R&B playlist that softened the edges of the night.
The members had scattered themselves across the room in varying degrees of exhaustion and looseness. Minho and Han were sitting on the floor, legs crossed, flicking cards into an empty bowl like it was the most important competition of their lives. Changbin was perched on the edge of the bed, halfway through a story about a fan who had somehow smuggled an entire watermelon into a fan meeting. Jeongin, sprawled on the couch with a blanket around his shoulders, kept dissolving into silent laughter every time Changbin got to the part about security's baffled expressions.
Felix sat near the corner of the couch, knees drawn up slightly, a drink balanced between his palms. He was relaxed, but not drunk. He'd had maybe two bottles of beer, enough for a pleasant hum in his veins without tipping into the unsteady warmth he could see in a few others' eyes.
Hyunjin, on the other hand, was drunk.
Not messy drunk, Hyunjin never really got messy, but soft drunk. His movements slowed, his gaze unhurried, his voice lower and gentler than usual. He sat on the floor beside the couch, close enough that his knee brushed Felix's. One hand rested lazily on Felix's leg, fingers tracing faint circles over the denim of his ripped jeans as though the motion soothed him.
Felix had been mid-laugh at one of Han's ridiculous card toss failures when he felt it, a lingering touch. He glanced down to find Hyunjin's eyes on him, a look that made Felix's chest feel oddly tight. Hyunjin wasn't smiling exactly, but there was something in his expression... something that looked like wonder.
The conversation around them kept rolling, voices weaving over each other, but it was like a small bubble had formed between them.
"You're quiet tonight," Hyunjin murmured, tilting his head slightly.
Felix shrugged, letting his lips curl in a small smile. "Just listening."
"Mm." Hyunjin's fingers kept their slow motion, tracing invisible shapes. His gaze didn't waver. "You look nice."
Felix chuckled, ducking his head. "You're drunk, Hyune."
"Not that drunk."
Felix hummed in disbelief, taking a sip of his drink. The warmth in Hyunjin's eyes was hard to ignore. The other members were still bantering. Minho pretending to be deeply offended that Han had hit him with a card, Chan laughing from his spot against the wall, but the sound all blurred in Felix's ears.
Minutes passed in this quiet little current between them, Hyunjin's attention anchored firmly on Felix. His hand had slipped a little further down, fingertips brushing the side of Felix's knee now, absently, like he didn't even realise he was doing it.
And then, out of nowhere, Hyunjin spoke.
"I love you, Yongbok."
Felix's breath caught. The words had been soft, almost lost under Changbin's booming laugh across the room, but Felix had heard them. His face went warm, his heartbeat stumbling into something unfamiliar.
He gave a small, awkward laugh, staring at the floor between them. "Don't be ridiculous. You're drunk."
Hyunjin's fingers stilled. His eyes narrowed just slightly, not in irritation but in quiet insistence. "I'm sober enough to know what I'm saying."
