I watched the clock in the women's toilets. 2 minutes to go. 10 minutes had already gone by but I gave 2 extra minutes in case they got held up.
By the time the two minutes were up I felt myself shaking. Sure I stuck up for myself and got out of his apartment when I was there. But that doesn't mean I wasn't scared. I was petrified of what he might do to me.
I shook my head and whispered, "Get yourself together. Come on. Just do it. Show him you're not affected by what he did to you."
I looked at myself in the mirror and nodded to myself before walking out. I walked back into the casino and noticed the game had started.I took a deep breath and casually walked over to James noticing Zachary sitting directly opposite him. I bent down next to James and kissed his cheek. "Good luck, Darling" I said. I was still shaking but I did as I was meant to do. I looked up at everybody briefly and noticed Zachary's eyes on me the whole time. I then walked off and sat next to Sebastian. The woman Zachary was with was looking at me frowning. James looked over to me and winked, letting me know I did a good job.
The first game went by smoothly but James lost. Luckily he hadn't put much money in but that was okay.
He had set himself a limit to bet with, which was the smart thing to do.
There was a break before the next game and James came over to have some of his drink. "You did great honey." He smiled taking a sip of his drink. He stood beside me and looked around.
I watched Zachary and he walked over to the woman. She stood up and hugged him. He turned her round slightly and whispered something to her. He then kisses her neck and she laughed. He brought her in to cuddle some more and he looked up at me, or James, I couldn't tell. He smirked as if trying to make someone jealous.
"He's doing it back." James muttered. "So?" Sebastian asked.
"So our plan won't work. He can't win this game. Or any of the games we play. I'll beat him just you watch."They soon returned to play and James had his two cards as the dealer dealt the cards to reach player, two cards each. He looked at them and showed no emotion. In poker, you needed what was called a 'poker face' to show no emotion so you don't give away your cards.
The dealer laid the cards in the middle and the first player, an old woman called Jane, about in her 60's and she folded her cards. This meant she gave up this round. The next player was a man called Edward, and he bet Twenty Thousand. It was then Zachary's turn. He nodded and put in the same amount of poker chips. Zachary watched James but James didn't look at him. He looked at his cards and put them face down again. James put in the same amount too.
The aim of the game is to make the highest possible hand with the cards you've got joined with the cards in the table.
Then Edward folded his cards and out them to the side. It was now only Zachary and James. The cards in the middle were three hearts. 3, 8 and 5. James looked up at Zachary and waited for him to take his turn. Zachary bet. "Fifty Thousand." He said pushing the poker chips into the middle. That was a lot of money. I nervously watched James as he contemplated what to do.
James pushed the chips into the middle and said, "Fifty Thousand." I sighed. If he's trying to beat him to get back at him it was a bad idea. I really bad idea.
Zachary then placed in another thousand. "Raise." He said.
James raised an eyebrow. "Call." James said. Zachary now had to put his cards down and show what he had. He did so and had the 9 and Queen of hearts. "Full house." The dealer said.
James shook his head and threw his cards away. Zachary grinned and pulled all the chips to him.
"We will now have a short break." The dealer said. James got up and walked over to us. "James you don't have to beat him. Its okay." I said.
"No, no. I have plenty of money to go around." He smiled and kissed my cheek. He then went to the bar to get a drink.
Zachary was standing with the woman he was with at the other side of the room and he looked at me and winked. I narrowed my eyes at him and raised my eyebrow. He laughed and turned around. I frowned and ignored him.
They soon returned and played the next round. However, James lost again. I shook my head and said to Sebastian, "Please make him stop. He doesn't have to prove anything." I said.
"I know." He said as we watched James walk over to us.
"James-" I began but he cut me off.
"Kitten don't be so worried." He said quietly.
"But I am. You're throwing away a lot of money that is- I mean we could use that for something else. This isn't even important." I whispered. James put his hands on my waist pulling me closer to him.
"Of course. But trust me okay?" He asked. I nodded. He smiled and said, "45 minute break." I nodded again."I'm going to go back to the room to freshen up. I'll be back in a minute." I said walking off and towards the lift. I had to get out of that room. I was annoyed and knew James wouldn't listen to me. And Zachary being there was just freaking me out.
I reached the lift and pressed the button. It opened and I steppes inside pressing the number five. I turned and looked up to see Zachary force his way into the lift. I tried pressing the button to open the doors but it was too late.
"Hello again princess." He said chuckling. "Stay the fuck away from me." I said as my heartbeat increased causing me to shake.
"Oh? How's that scar healing for you?" He asked trapping me in the corner. I couldn't move he was coming closer each second.
