After breakfast, I was guided back to my room. Inside, there was a girl, her white hair stacked on her head in a complex up-do. Her eyelids shown shimmery with silver and white. Winged eyeliner sharp into a point. Her lips were a pale gray.
"Aero," She said as I walked in. "I'm here to do your makeup."
"My makeup?"
"The Queen wishes for you to look your best for tonight. Please, sit,"
I sat down at the stool in the middle of the room. Sitting on the dresser was a colossal amount of eyeshadow and eyeliner. "Close your eyes," she instructed and I did as I was told.
After ten good minutes, she finally declared done. She sprayed something on my face, scentless. "To hold," she explained.
I stood in front of the mirror, looking like a different person.
She mastered a gray smoky eye, making my blue eyes pop. My eyeliner was thicker than I'd ever normally ear, but only helped with the dramatic effect. The end of my eyeliner twirled out into small twists. My lips were a perfect red.
"We'll do hair later. Would you like to see your dress?"
"My dress?" I paused. "What's going on tonight, anyway?"
The artist smiled. "The Prince's birthday, of course. He turns twenty."
The artist pulled out a plastic bag from the closet. She unzipped it, revealing a cocktail dress. The top was white, slowly fading into a black at the end. Blue beads littered the bottom half, like snowflakes.
I was helped into it. The dress hugged my hips and complimented my slight curves. It was strapless with a slight V neckline. It flowed around me with even the slightest movement.
I stood in front of the mirror, unable to imagine what the hair would look like.
. . .
Before she did my hair, I requested to speak to Cory. He was brought to my room."I'd like to explain last night," I said as he walked in, trading placed with the makeup artist.
"I didn't think there was much to explain," He said, leaning against my dresser, still cluttered with makeup. "You seemed to be enjoying yourself enough with Mr. Prince Charming."
"I wasn't. He forced himself on me. You should've heard what he said to me in the Throne Room. At breakfast he was..." I trailed off. How do I explain that? I decided to change the subject. "How come you didn't answer my questions at breakfast?"
"I wasn't allowed to."
"By who?"
"Who do you think? While you're over here getting the star treatment, I was forced to sleep with the kitchen help. They forced me into that damn uniform and it was serve or be killed. I wanted to answer you, I did, but I couldn't."
"Why were you limping?"
"Prince William kicked the side of my leg."
"What? Why?"
"I said that he was a fucking creep. I did hear what he said to you, and I saw what he was doing to you at breakfast."
I was silent, my arms crossed over my chest.
There was a knock at the door and my hair dresser came back in. "Sorry to interrupt, but the Queen wishes to see you, Aero,"
I smirked at Cory before walking out of the room.
. . .
"You look nice. I hope you like the dress we made for you," The Queen said, looking at her reflection in the mirror. "Listen, about William. I like you, and I think you two look good together. I want it to appear tonight that you two are... very close... Dance together, talk together, maybe so some romance... The point is, I need you two to look like couple.""A couple? Is that really necessary?"
"Doesn't every little girl wish to be a Princess at some time?"
I was silent. "So," I started, "You want me to pose as William's girlfriend?" I raised an eyebrow.
The Queen nodded. "You're already on a first name basis with him, so why not?"
Because I hate your son. "I'll do it."
The Queen looked giddy. "Oh goody. I just knew you'd say yes. Now—"
"As long as afterwards you take me home. Home to Humanity."
"Fine. I'll do it. If it'll make my William happy, I'll do it. Hold up your end and I'll hold up mine." The Queen smiled at me. "You can go now, I'll see you tonight."
I nodded and left the room, feeling uneasy.
