"Can you save me?"
The wires in my brain are trying so hard to connect. I've always been pretty smart in my opinion, but its only been once speaking to Raph, and I'm already confused at his actions.
"What do you mean?" I question.
Raph looks down and takes a deep breath. "I just need someone to save me."
"I don't think I understand," I admit quietly. "Please explain."
"You don't have to... but I won't explain it. Just answer yes or no," he states with a firm voice.
How does he expect me to answer something I don't understand?
Maybe he's secretly drunk?
"I don't know," I say.
"That wasn't one of your choices," he fires.
"Well it isn't an easy question to answer," I explain. "You need to elaborate on that. Save you from what? Why do you need saving?"
"Look I told you to bare with me. So just do it. Can you save me?"
I flinch a bit at the question begin asked again. Feeling flustered, I reply, "Yes." I can't say no to him. I don't want to upset him like I somehow did Friday night.
"Promise?"
"Promise what?" I shriek.
"Promise?" He repeats with a clipped tone.
I huff and helplessly shrug. "Promise." Whatever.
What did I just involve myself in?
Then he grins and his seriousness dissolves as if he didn't just tell me something confusing. The sadness behind his eyes turn into eagerness.
"Lets go trash some rich kid's place," he says with a mischievous grin.
"What?" I stand up from his bed and lift an eyebrow. "No! We have your homework to do," I remind him. First he asks me something that makes no sense, then wants to trash someone's house? My brain is barely catching up.
"Homework is for losers. Lets do something fun!"
"We can't just crash someone's place-" I stop when he tosses me a roll of toilet paper and he shrugs once again.
"Sure we can. I'll get the eggs," he says as he walks away. I follow him, my mouth opening in disbelief.
"You said you needed help with your homework and that's what I'm here for. Not to crash someone's house who I don't even know. That is so wrong. Imagine if someone did that you! How would you feel after coming home seeing-"
"Wow! Leo, right? Are you my mom or something? Stop trying to lecture me," he mumbles. He carries three boxes of carton and signals me to open the door. I reluctantly open it for him and he steps outside. "Well? Are you coming?"
He shoots me a charming smile, one that I've seen him do a thousand times before on my missions of spying him. But this is different. It makes my heart leap.
He's smiling at me. Not Mona Lisa.
This makes the voice nagging in my head to stay, disappear.
Its like watching your idol behind a screen and finally meeting them. Seeing thier smiles, turns into something different. Its not the same anymore. They aren't behind a screen, so that smile means a thousand more times to you than it ever will. So I guess you can say that this is the main reason why I give in.
Why I close the door behind me and grab a box of eggs. Why the heck I'm about to mess up a house of a person I don't even know.
"Not a bad choice for a shy person like you," Raph says with a smirk.
