KELLIN'S POV—
I didn't sleep much during my first night. I mostly just sat on my bed and read through some of the files of the patients I would be treating. Or, keeping content as Doctor Hills would probably call it. Three patients he had given me. Was that all? I suppose since I was new here, and basically new at the job too, I wouldn't get too many patients to start off with.
Although I knew I could've done it, easily.
I did my scheduled morning rounds, with Nurse Tay at my side. "Don't worry about grumpy old Doctor Hills, though. You probably won't see much of him anymore, except for when you need to be evaluated or when one of your patients is either going downhill or fit to be released." She rambled joyfully.
"I heard there haven't been any releases here in a long time."
Tay smiled nervously as we walked down one of the many corridors. "That's because Hills is kind of a dick." She then whispered, so only I could hear. And it kind of triggered a laugh in me.
"His brother ran this asylum before him, you see." She then began to explain. "But he's been away for a while now. His wife was in this horrible accident and apparently went a little cuckoo after that. She couldn't be admitted here, so she had to go elsewhere and so did he. Now we're stuck with the mean one of the two until the wife gets better."
I frowned a little. Until she gets better. "Do you think she'll get better?" I then asked.
Tay simply shrugged and turned towards me. "According to Hills, madness is incurable, right?" She said, almost as if she believed it too.
"Right."
"Well, morning rounds are done. You can now do... well, whatever. I'm gonna be off, see you around!" Tay said all cheerily as she hopped off. This girl was way too happy for a depressing place like this. But perhaps, that was just what this place needed.
I decided to take a look at how the patients were doing in the recreational area, since for now I didn't have any duties to attend to. I made my way into the big open room, finding myself to be a bit disappointed when I didn't hear music. The piano was locked shut and the girl who had been playing it the day before was sitting on the ground, her knees pulled up to her chest and her head rested against the wall behind her. She was watching a boy who sat a few feet away across from her draw on a fairly big piece of paper.
I had a curious nature, so I went over to the both of them. I sat down beside the girl and smiled at her, earning a confused look from her in return. "Hey there, you're Emilia, right?" I asked kindly.
The boy who was drawing before looked at us questioningly. He grabbed a notepad off the ground beside him and began to write something. He then tore off the piece of paper and came over to hand it to Emilia. The boy looked at me after that, so I just smiled at him, but he quickly looked away again.
Emilia read the note and then looked at me with a disapproving frown. "He's right, you can't be a doctor." She simply said.
I chuckled a little. "And why is that?"
"You're too young to be a doctor. Doctors don't sit down with us in the rec room. And doctors definitely don't just come over for small talk." Emilia pointed out
"Well I am in fact a doctor, but I guess I'm just a different kind of doctor." I told her with a smile. "Sometimes I even forget that I am one, you know? I still tend to look at the dude behind me whenever someone calls me Doctor Quinn."
That made her giggle a little.
The boy pulled out his notepad again and started writing. He tore off the page and then surprisingly he handed it to me. "Are you my new therapist?" The note read. And I wondered why he didn't just ask me. Was he afraid to?
