Y/N'S POV

You smiled, turning your back on him as the golden light from the portal shimmered against your silhouette. Without an ounce of hesitation, you stepped through.

The sensation hit instantly...the air shifted from heavy warmth (more like hellish heat) to crisp coolness, brushing against your face like a whisper.

The brightness was almost blinding at first; your eyes took a moment to adjust.

The world felt alive again.

The air was fresher, cleaner...no trace of sulfur or smell of rotting corpses (and shitty people). The sunlight soaked into your skin, foreign yet familiar, and for a split second, you almost didn’t recognize it.

The sun.

real one.

You blinked a few times, letting your eyes wander around the new rooftop you’d emerged onto.

It was quiet—thank goodness.

Not a single human in sight.

You sighed in relief; it would’ve been quite a headache trying to explain (or clean up a crime scene) the sudden supernatural appearance of two people (demons) in broad daylight.

Lifting a hand, you let the sunlight filter through your fingers, golden and warm. Your skin caught the glow—and that’s when you noticed.

Normal skin.

Gone was the faint greyish hue that came with your infernal form.

Your hands looked soft, human again.

Even your nails—trimmed neatly and unpainted.

You tilted your head and let out a small breath of disbelief, flexing your fingers as if to test whether they were really yours.

Then you realized something else.

The world felt higher.

No—you were shorter.

You looked down at your legs, then sighed, already missing the confidence that came with your former height. “Five-seven again,” you muttered under your breath. “Great. I miss being tall already.”

That's right, you miss being 6'2" already.

A faint hum vibrated behind you,it was the sound of the portal shifting, rippling through the air like a held note.

You smiled, knowing exactly who was coming through next.

He followed. Of course, he did.

You turned, ready to greet him with your brightest grin—

—and froze.

Your breath caught halfway in your throat.

“Mi fe…?” you managed to whisper, unsure if your eyes were deceiving you.
