Unsuccessful.

Reiko POV

When we got back from the match the first thing I did was run to the hospital hoping Mama was out of surgery for the last time. The nurses are used to me running through the waiting room and straight to Mama's room. So I wasn't stopped when I did that day. I walked past Tsurugi Yuuichi's room. And the door was open. I looked in. I saw him sat there on his bed.

"Congratulations with the game Reiko." He said to me.

"Thank you Tsurugi Yuuichi."

"Yuuichi is fine. The name is a bit of a mouthful." I smiled and walked into my mum's room. Like yesterday her bed was empty. And the same nurse came in. She put her hand on my shoulder.

"It was unsuccessful. We couldn't save her." She whispered to me.

"What?" I asked shocked.

"Your mother past during her surgery yesterday. We will inform your father shortly."

"That can't be possible." I cried falling to my knees. I gripped onto the bed sheets that Mama must have slept on for her last time.

"I'll leave you Reiko. Leave when you are ready." She rubbed my back and left me alone. I was still crying.

"Reiko? Are you all right?" A voice asked. I turned around to see Tsur- Yuuichi in a wheelchair with Tsurugi pushing him.

"Is it your mum?" Tsurugi asked. I just nodded. Tsurugi came and got my hand. "Come with us. We'll go for a walk. You'll need some fresh air." I walked along side Yuuichi's wheelchair.

"If you don't mind me asking. What happened to your mother?" Tsurugi asked.

"Kyousuke!" Yuuichi shouted.

"Don't worry. It's fine. It would probably help me if I speak about it. Or I'll bottle it up and ruin things." I said to Yuuichi.

"Just don't force yourself to say anything you think is too much."

"Well. Just before Holy Road started, Mama fell ill. So I quit soccer so I could be tgere for her more. She had a heart condition that could only be cured through surgery. Papa got an extra job to earn more money but we never got enough to completely pay for the surgery. But it had to be done anyway. So we were in debt of the hospital. And Mama was still weak. And this was only a few fays ago. Yesterday she had an emergency operation when the doctors realised it was unsuccessful the previous time. She passed away during that surgery." I let more tears fall. At the time Tsurugi and I were sat on a bench. Yuuichi in his wheelchair next to Tsurugi. Tsurugi awkwardly rubbed mu arm. Obviously not sure how to react to a teenage girl crying next to him.

"I should go." I said standing up.

"All right. Take care." Yuuichi spoke. I walked away and slowly made my way home. I thought of Mama the whole way home.

Flashback

"Arisu look! Gouenji and Tomramaru are going to use Tiger Storm." My cousin Yuuka shouted shaking me. This was the first if Gouenji's matches I had been to. And I was already loving it. Until Tiger Storm. Seeing the white tiger appear behind Toramaru scared me. I clung to Mama close to tears.

"It's all right my angel." She calmed me down with those simple words and a small stroke on the back of my head.

Flashback earlier.

Mama always loved to see me smile when playing soccer. Even if it was me alone kicking it against the wall in the garden. But most likely I would be playing with Gouenji.

Flashback

"Arisu. Kick with the inside of you foot." I did as he said. "Pretty good for a five year old." He mocked.

"Gouenji!" I shouted. I hated that he still referred to me as five. It was my birthday yesterday. So I'm six now. Hr laughed and kicked the ball back to me. He stood in front of ny garden's wall. Between two trees.

"Try and score a goal." I kicked with all my might. He purposely moved slowly allowing the ball to go in. "No! You beat me!" He shouted. He ran and picked me up. "Time to go back inside." He said looking up. It haf already gotten dark. Ever since Yuuka had got into a coma my family would often go to his house. Or they would come to ours. We always ended up playing soccer. And I found it so much fun.

Flashback over.

I let more tears fall as I remembered Mama was always watching Gouenji and I, when we were in the garden, from the kitchen window.

She would always encourage me to do the things I loved. Which was soccer.

Flashback

"Mama. I quit soccer today." I said walking into her hospital room.

"Why?" She asked shocked. "You've got a week until Holy Road."

"I have to be here for you."

"Your team isn't going to be inpressed."

"That's another thing. Can I transfer to another school?"

"What? Why? What's happening in Teikoku that's made you want to leave?"

"Uh...nothing. I just thought me quittibg soccer would make a bad reputation for Teikoku. So I want to stop them from humiliation."

"What did Coach Kidou think of this?"

"Well Samuka-Sensai tried to talk me out of it. But Kidou-Sensai respected ny decision."

"As long as you are happy. I'm happy my angel."

"Thanks Mama."

Flashback over

I reached the house, sighed and let myself in.

Life without Mama would be dull.
