Chapter 10

We turn so many corners that I got lost. "This isn't the way there," I say concerned that he might be leading me into a trap "It's the back way" he turns and looks at me "Trust me" I nod deciding to believe him. Every time I see someone I get nervous that they can somehow read my mind and tell that I'm going to escape from here, then they'll catch me and beat me or worse kill me. I grab a glimpse of the exit sign "Stay here" Brady orders me. Ryker stays behind with me in case. I see Brady walk to the guards and talk to them a bit, but I can't hear them. "Will you stop that." Ryker whispers. Without me noticing I've been tapping my foot. "I can't help it I'm nervous." He puts his foot on mine, gently so it doesn't hurt "Listen what I said to Payton, I'm not going to lie" I look down to the ground I don't want to talk about this, not now at least "I would rather have her. You guys have the same personality it's just split in two" I put my hand on his mouth. This hurts. More than I thought. Ryker goes to say something, till he sees Brady walk back. "So..." I say eagerly "I told them my Dad called all the guards and he doesn't sound happy" I look around the corner and see them walking away, then disappearing. We all run to the door. I stand not knowing now if I can do this, then Brady opens the door, and a little weight lifts off my shoulder. The outside world is so beautiful. Blue skies, green grass, beautiful tall trees. I catch a glimpse of a living thing walking on four legs and horns on its head. This must be a deer a real deer! I jump up and down and run outside and breath the air, it smells like cut grass and flower or at least what I think flowers smell like. Ryker clears his throat "Didn't we come here to do something?" I turn and point at him "You're right!" It was easy to find the tree, come on it was the biggest tree in the forest how could you miss it. I run to the tree, faster than I've ever run before with the boys right behind me "Guys start digging, do anything you can to find it" without complaining they start. It's been about two hours, but that's just my guess. I come around the tree to the side the boys are on "Guys did you find anything" I see their bodies turning purple. Oh my gosh! How could I be so dumb, their not human-beast like me. Brady falls first then Ryker "Guys!" I yell and fall to my knees next to them "We're fine" Ryker says with a smile. How could he say that! This time I know, I'm crying "Don't worry I'll find the cure" I start digging, then something dawns on me. What if it's in the tree! I start ripping at the tree. My hands hurt, and my fingers bleed, but, it's worth it for them, my best friends. I look at them, and it's getting worse. I'm too late they're going to die, they're going to die. I fall to my knees, and my hands scrape against the tree making them bleed more. But as I slide down I see silver in the tree. Hope raises in me, and I dig my nails and hands into the tree not caring about my pain. I open a silver case and see three syringes in the box, just my luck. I look to my left and see a tube made of glass. I guess it's a sample so we can make it and save many people's lives. This is hard but I take the middle one and push the end of it, and half of it goes in so now there's only half. I'm going to give myself only half since I'm safe from whatever the world is infected with. I stick it in where the little boy put the needle earlier today. I push it as hard as I can so I can get to the boys faster, I feel a little bit of pain, but I rip that needle out and throw the empty syringe on the ground. I take the other two and run two the boys. I do Ryker first because he is the closest to me, after Ryker, I move to Brady. I sit under the tree and a few minutes later slip into sleep. I awake to the same room with the two chairs. "Payton?" I see her staring into nothingness "It's ReeAnn, Payton is dead" At first I didn't mean what she said until I look down at where my hands are supposed to be. "Where are my hands?" She turns around and seems like she was expecting this "You knew" A smile works her way on her face "Of course, It's only common sense that the body would go back to the original." I didn't know what to feel at that moment. "Sorry, but this is goodbye." Like Hell, it is. "Don't worry I think we will see each other soon" Her confused face is all I see before I disappear. "Payton, Payton?" I felt my body shaking "What?" I groan because I'm so tired. "Your ears and tail and teeth are gone" I sit up and realize I'm back to my usual self. No more human beast. Is it strange I feel a little sad for her? She never got to live her life, but it's to be expected she was created, and I was the real thing, I'm also grateful cause she saved my best friends life, so thank you human beast. "I'm back guys I'm back! By the way, it's ReeAnn now." I yell. I'm so happy. The boys hug me, and I hug back. It's wonderful to feel things with my body. "We still have lives to save," I say holding up the sample I took "That's our girl" they both smile. We take off on our journey to save lives and stop the people using human beasts. The boys and I walk hand in hand out of the forest to save lives. Dr. James give this task to me he must have had a lot of faith, and I WON'T let him down. My heart beats fast for both of them, but there's still one question left which boy am I really in love with?
