Echo grabbed Suzuko's hand and laced their fingers together proud of her daughters fear less attitude despite all the rude and harsh comments the crowd was making to them. As much as their comments annoyed Echo, she couldn't, no she wouldn't say anything. She couldn't let Suzuko see her as the monster she was before, even if she had to lie to her sweet 6 year old daughter she would. If Suzuko knew what Echo did in her past, she would hate her forever.
She leads her daughter who was waist high to her 5 foot frame to the small pond near the house, they sit down at the edge of the pond ripping off their shoes and placing their feet in the cold water. Suzuko turns to her mother and chatters on about how excited she is to see a new species, her chattering gathered the attention of Hydra who was comfy in the warmth of Echo's hoodie. She peeks her head out to look at the small girl who had excitement shining in her beautiful emerald eyes.
"I hope they answer back! I can't wait!" Suzuko squeals covering her open mouth with her small hands.
"What was in the letter?" Echo questions her daughter with a slight frown, Suzuko made it clear while she was writing that she didn't want Echo to see her letter AT ALL. Echo respected her decision even if it hurt to see her beloved daughter keeping secrets from her, but Echo knew she had no right to pry she wasn't Suzuko's birth mother nor was she telling Suzuko everything about her own checkered past.
"Its a secret!" Suzuko places her index finger on her lips to indicate that she wasn't going to tell Echo anything. Suzuko was well aware of how her mother felt about keeping secrets but she felt that this was best kept to herself. For a 6 year old Suzuko was well rehearsed in the body language of her mother, she knew her mother considered her a genius but she never said it she didn't want to pressure Suzuko. Her mother had a tight look on her face she wanted to know what was in the letter but she refused to ask, Echo hated intruding.
"Mommy? I'm hungry" Suzuko juts her bottom lip out in a pout and tilting her head trying out her best puppy dog eyes.
"What do you want to eat kiddo?" Echo looks at her daughter with her pierced eyebrow raised in curiosity. Echo knew what kind of food her daughter wanted, they both had an obsession with Chinese food and could eat it all day every day. Thats why Echo had it on speed dial.
"Chinese!" Suzuko yells giggling softly as Echo gets up slowly pressing the speed dial button on her phone and ordering their usual Chinese. Echo held out her free hand that Suzuko took easily and skipped in front of her dragging her mother along.
They get to their apartment easily, no one dared to mess with Echo and her family after all with her large snake wrapped around her she screamed danger. The piercings sure didn't help. Echo didn't mind though, in fact it brought comfort to her that people feared her. It meant that no one would mess with her or her family.
The Chinese arrived shortly after they did, they took it and ate it quickly knowing it was getting late and they both had long days, Suzuko would wait for her letter while Echo went and was a waitress. Echo didn't make nearly enough money to support them with the few hours of waitressing she does each day, Suzuko didn't know where Echo got the money for their housing and food but she didn't care enough to ask, after all she hated prying.
Echo placed the extra food into the fridge and gave Hydra a rat to eat before placing her into her tank leaving the glass open. Hydra was allowed to come and go as she pleased, they all trusted her. She was also a great guard dog so leaving the tank closed and locked up wouldn't help them if they were attacked.
They easily did what they needed to do; shower, brush their teeth, change into pj's before they hopped into bed exhausted. They both were exhausted in different ways, Echo was tired from all the yelling, crowds, and stupid people all day while Suzuko was tired from the excitement of meeting a new species for the first time.
They both drifted off into a peaceful slumber each in their own beds.
