The Band's Cruelty

Morning sunlight crept through the curtains, spilling across the quiet room. The omega stirred in bed, eyelids heavy but cheeks a little less pale than the night before. The alpha sat at his side, one hand gently stroking his mate’s hair while the other rocked the cradle where Jungtae whimpered softly.

Jungkook blinked awake, his gaze falling immediately on their smallest pup. “He’s fussing again?” His voice was soft, still hoarse.

Vante smiled faintly. “Only a little. I think he just wants his mother.”

Jungkook reached out, and the alpha carefully placed Jungtae into his arms. Instantly, the cub's cries quieted, his tiny nose burrowing against his mother’s chest. A peaceful sound escaped the omega’s lips, though his eyes were glassy with exhaustion.

“They’re so perfect,” he whispered. “Even if the world thinks we’re a mistake… they’re perfect.”

The alpha’s chest tightened. He wanted to erase every scar those cruel words had carved into his mate’s heart. Instead, he leaned forward, pressing his forehead to his. “Let them think what they want. The world doesn’t deserve to define us.”

But even as he said it, his phone buzzed on the nightstand. The omega’s brother, who had just returned from checking Taegukk and Taeyeon, frowned at the sound.

The alpha hesitated before answering, already dreading what waited on the other end.

“Where the hell are you?” The sharp voice of Namjoon sliced through the line. “Do you even care how unprofessional you looked last night? Walking off stage, running after—”

“After my mate?” the alpha cut in, his voice like steel. “Yes. I cared.”

A scoff followed. “You’ve ruined everything. He’s a liability—you’re a liability. This group doesn’t have space for weaklings who collapse during shows. If the company finds out about… whatever the hell you’re hiding, those things, it’s over for all of us.”

The alpha’s jaw clenched so hard it hurt. His inner wolf stirred dangerously beneath his skin, begging to come out. “He just gave birth,” he said in a low growl. “Three weeks ago. Prematurely. And you still sneer at him? You have no idea what strength looks like.”

“Strength?” namjoon's laugh was cold. “Strength isn’t bleeding all over the stage or clinging to some mistake of a family. Strength is keeping the group alive. He’s nothing but dead weight.”

The alpha nearly crushed the phone in his hand. Across the room, Jungkook had frozen, eyes wide. He’d heard enough of the conversation to know.

The only other person he looked up to, who he considered a father in his life, called him a mistake.

Tears welled at the corners of his eyes, but his voice was firm when he spoke. “Tell them,” he whispered. “Tell them I’m nothing. Tell them I’m weak. But don’t you ever let them see me cry for them again.”

The alpha turned, fury burning in his chest. He lifted the phone back to his ear and hissed, “Say what you want about me. But if you ever call my mate weak again, you’ll regret it.”

He hung up before the other could reply. The silence afterward was heavy.

The omega’s brother shook his head, muttering under his breath. “They don’t deserve either of you.”

The alpha’s heart twisted as he turned back to the omega, who was clutching Jungae close to his chest, tears sliding silently down his cheeks.

“They hate me,” jungkook whispered quietly. “They’ve always hated me. Maybe if I—”

“No.” Vante’s voice was sharp, commanding. He crouched before the bed, grabbing his mate’s free hand. “Don’t finish that sentence. You don’t need to change, you don’t need to prove yourself. Not to them. Not ever.”

The omega sniffled, lowering his gaze. “But the band—”

“The band,” the alpha cut him off, “is not our family. These cubs are. You are.

The words hung in the air like a vow, and for the first time, the omega let out a shaky breath that wasn’t weighed down by guilt.

But then, the alpha’s phone buzzed again—this time, a text. He glanced at the screen, and his blood ran cold.

Company meeting. Tonight. Mandatory.

He looked back at the omega, who was rocking Jungtae slowly, unaware of what the message meant.

The alpha’s fists curled at his sides. If the company suspected the truth—if the cubs were ever discovered—everything could shatter.

And this time, he knew: the real fight was only beginning.

The company’s involvement raises the stakes—now it’s not just cruel bandmates, but the possibility of exposure.
