Epilogue

Bear’s mane whipped against my face as we raced through the moon-lit woods.  I hovered over his glossy neck; I felt his muscles coil and extend under my pajama shorts as he let out a new surge of energy.  I whooped with joy, and Bear unleashed a playful buck.  I clung to his mane as I quickly regained my balance on his bare back.  Tree limbs scratched my legs as we whipped past.  We were flying!  The path opened, and we reached a wide stream.  The moonlight reflected off of the swift-moving water, and Bear eagerly began bounding through it.  I laughed aloud, and tilted my head towards the full moon, as the spray of cold water splashed against my face.  Suddenly, Bear halted in the middle of the stream, and his legs began to buckle.  I groaned.  I swiftly dismounted, as he collapsed in the middle of the stream, and began rolling in the water“Jeez, I know you liked water, but seriously Bear?  How am I supposed to dry you by the time Kelly comes to feed you guys in the morning?” I complained.  Bear stood, and playfully shook his dripping mane, while drenching me in water.  “BEAR!”  I squealed.  I shook my finger, mock scolding him.  I tried to keep a straight face, but couldn’t keep from grinning.  I unconcernedly checked my watch.  4:00am it flickered.  “Yikes!”   I yelped.  “Kelly will be at the barn by 6 to feed the horses!  We need to get moving!  We are a good way from the barn, and we can’t let Kelly find out what happened,” I whispered panicked.  I need to manage my time better; I definitely don’t want to get caught! I cautioned myself.  I had never run this late before, I worried.  I swiftly swung my leg over Bear’s soaking wet back, and we trotted back to the barn leaving a trail of water in our wake.
