Narrator's POV
.....
On the ground floor of the apartment complex, the receptionist's restless eyes shifted from the gloom outside to the glass doors, then back to the glowing monitor. Surveillance footage of a certain apartment's every corner held her attention, the memory of almost slipping up last night still gnawing at her.
She had gotten too eager.
Pressing two fingers to her temple, she exhaled sharply, then snatched her phone and began typing.
14:37 - Receptionist:
Where the hell is she!
14:38 - Helix:
How should I know? You're the one keeping tabs on her.
14:39 - Receptionist:
ME!? You're at that damn college, not me!
14:42 - Helix:
What do you mean? She never showed up on campus today.
14:43 - Receptionist:
What?! She clearly left early this morning... unless-
Her fingers hovered as realization dawned.
14:45 - Helix:
Bravo. Duped, Miss Profit.
14:45 - Receptionist:
SHUT UP! That bitch will pay for tricking me!
14:50 - Helix:
So, how do you intend to fix this?
A slow curl of her lips accompanied her next words.
14:53 - Receptionist:
We wait. If she knows what's good for her, she'll come back.
14:55 - Helix:
And if she doesn't?
14:58 - Receptionist:
It's going to rain~
14:58 - Helix:
...And?
15:03 - Receptionist:
I think I know where she's gone.
Her expression hardened as she recalled the names and faces from last night's unexpected visitors and how y/n was yelling at them. Not to mention her poorly hidden anxiety this morning.
Either she has gone to grovel after the fight or... she has gotten suspicious after what happened last night.
No matter, this play needed to end soon.
15:07 - Receptionist:
The mouse is skittish now. About time we close the net~
15:09 - Helix:
Don't worry, the chemical variant this time will be the final nail in her coffin.
15:11 - Receptionist:
Are you certain this time? Because your so-called cyanide barely acted as chloroform.
15:13 - Helix:
Yes. Her DNA is different. As you foresaw... she isn't from this world.
15:17 - Receptionist:
Hmmm. She needs to die ...accordingly
15:19 - Helix:
Then let's make sure she does.
She set her phone aside, lips pressing into a thin, calculating line as the screen before her split - one side frozen on Y/N's living room, the other pulsing with a blinking red dot on a map, each flash tightening the invisible cage around her.
Outside, the gloomy sky tore open with a sudden crack of thunder, light flooding through the glass doors. For a fleeting instant, the flash carved her face out of the dark - predatory, cold, and sharp, a shadow of obsession etched into every line.
The hunt had already begun.
