Darkness is something we all have within, something that cannot be controlled by something as feeble as the mind. Solely the heart governs the region in the soul where hatred and fear lurk.
When one cannot control what they see around them, they will retreat into the shelter their personal darkness provides. This may seem to be a viable solution to the world of hurt and pain, but in such a demented form a human's mind will crumble under the weight brought on by stress.
There is no true escape from loss, to try and avert the inevitable is to bring about your own doom. Untimely death may seem like a punishment from divine forces, yet those who are gone would not wish it that way. Death, however, is only a small fraction of the darkness.
Most pain comes from what you dread happening; it hurts more to think about loss than to experience it. Your mind can wander from the clutches of the heart into a world where your feelings cannot be controlled by what you know is right. This world is what I like to call darkness. This world is what everyone subconsciously fears more than death.
This world is living.
