The Awkward Encounter

Chapter Two

~Chapter Two~

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

I awoke from the loud noise coming from my alarm clock, opening my eyes to the empty room.

Today was moving day, Serena and i decided we go to ikea yesterday to get some new furniture for my room. So far i've gotten a bed set, a computer desk, a cute rug, a couple paintings, and mirror.

I had set up the bed yesterday, so that i had somewhere to sleep. Which led me here today to set up all my other furniture.

I started on putting my computer desk together, i wasn't one to really.. Read instructions, so i kinda went and did it by myself.

After about 20 minutes in, my back started hurting and i was getting quite frustrated with where this part went to this part. I sighed deeply and dropped the items in my hand, and laid down on the soft carpet.

"Did you give up?" Serena laughed from the door frame.

"Huh? Oh.. Umm yea.. How long have you been there?" I asked embarrassed.

"Since you screwed the nail in the wrong place."

"Be specific, cause i think i screwed all the nails in the wrong place!" I said running my hand through my hair frustratedly, while examining the wooden board.

"You know what, i think you should rest and relax! Gerald can put everything together! He's an engineer for goodness sakes."

"Alright alright! I'll get ready and explore florida a little okay?" I said.

"Yep you can take my car out if you want." She says throwing my keys on my lap.

"Seriously!! Thank you!!" I jumped up excitedly.

I drove around florida for a bit before i found a Starbucks and decided to treat myself on getting a frappé. I got out of the car excitedly and ran in the cafe a bit too quick.

I ran into a hard chest, making the attractive man spill his drink on himself.

"Oh my god!! I'm so sorry!" I said taking nearby napkins and patting the wet area.

"No it's fine! It was my fault." He chuckled.

"No it was definitely my fault! I ran in and i should've looked where i was go-"

"It's fine." He reassured.

"No no no no, i'll buy you a new drink." I explained.

"You really don't have to." He smiled.

"It's the least i can do?" I pleaded.

"Alright." He gave in and fell in line with me.

"I-i'm sorry. Again." I said glancing over at him ever so often since i couldn't have the courage to look at him.

"It's fine really. I never get to bump into a pretty girl on a daily basis so i think today's my lucky day." He shrugged.

"Oh.. Umm... Yea." I stammered as i was lost for words.

"Hello ma'am what would you like to order today?" The barista behind the counter asked.

"Oh! Um.. One Caramel Frappe and an Americano hot coffee." I said making my way in front of her.

"Is that all?" She asked.

"Yup that's it thanks." I smiled as she gave me the receipt and exchanged her the money.

I walked slowly and hesitantly back to the attractive stranger. He gave me a bright smile as he caught my gaze and i quickly looked away avoiding any more awkward situations.

"So.. Ehem. What's your name?" He asked breaking the uncomfortable silence.

"Aaliyah. Aaliyah May. And you?"

"Joshua. Joshua Keeth." He mimicked.

"Huh. You don't look like a Joshua." I blurted out.

"Thanks." He chuckled in response.

I covered my mouth in embarrassment, my face flushing. I need to keep my
mouth shut before I let any more words come out that'll ruin this encounter.

"One Caramal Frappe, and One Americano!" The barista yelled from behind the counter.

Oh thank god the awkward wait is finally over, i walked up and grabbed the two drinks and handed the Americano to Joshua who was standing there with his hands in his pockets as his eyes twinkled.

"Here.." I said.

"Thank you kind miss." He smiled in response.

As i drank my frappe Joshua grabbed his phone out of his pocket and scrunched his eyebrows.

"I gotta get going! Thanks again. Oh! And before i go why don't we exchange phone numbers?" He asked.

"Umm.. I'm not.. Well.. Alright." I said contemplating on whether or not i should. It's not a bad thing after all, i could just be making a new friend. With a hot guy.

I grabbed his phone out of his hand and dialed in my phone number, pleased with it I handed it back.

"Thanks, bye Aaliyah. See you soon!"

"You're welcome! Bye!" I waved.

After he left i let out a loud sigh and shook my head at my sudden interactions with him. I could not believe how nervous i was to be around him, i barely know him!

I shook that thought to the back of my head and decided to go back home and see if my room is finished!!
