Chapter 8

Sarah's POV 

The next morning I woke up. I felt much better today. I almost felt like my old self. I looked over and Kevin was sleeping on the couch. he had turned it around to face the bed. I picked up a pillow and swam over to him. 

"Wake up!" I smashed the pillow into his face. 

"I'm up! I'm up!" I had startled him...oh well. "Do you remember anything last night?" What was he talking about? all i remember it talking to him until I fell asleep. 

"Umm... no?" 

"You were screaming. I thought you were dying." At this point I was sitting at his tail listening. I didn't remember any of this. "You woke up and were shaking. I had to calm you down. You don't remember that? I was gonna ask what you were dreaming about."

"No I dont remember im sorry though.  You should have gone to your room. I feel bad you slept on the couch." 

"Its OK I wanted to be here for you."

"Well next time you can sleep in the bed its not like its to little." He laughed at this. I swam over to the mirror and checked my hair. It was perfect. Good less work for me. "So when are we leaving?"

A little later we were on our way to Atlantis. I was excited about seeing the great city. 

"There is something I should tell you be fore we get there. You see there aren't mermaids like you."  Kevin started to explain this. I could tell he was struggling looking for the right words. "Just don't mention that you were once human OK?" I nodded in agreement. But this really hurt me. I wasn't supposed to be. I was supposed to hide who I truly was. "You OK?"

"Yeah I was just looking at the fish." I wasnt going to let him know this hurt me. Then we were there. It was beautiful. Full of shops of all kinds, sea flowers everywhere, the people even looked nice. And in the center of it all a beautiful palace fit for a king.

"That's the kings castle, just him and his wife." He must have say me staring at it. 

"Its beautiiful." 

We started to swim around the city. If i even looked at something Kevin would buy it for me. It felt like the time my father brought me to Paris after my mother died. Instead I was brought to Atlantis when my father died. My stomach started to rumble. I was hungry but didn't want to eat.

"Whoa when was the last time you ate?" Kevin had stopped swimming. I turned around to face him and thought about it. Yesterday morning I hadent had a chance to eat since the girls came in and interupted breakfast.

"Umm... Oh my gosh look at this." I swam into a store and picked something up. I wasn't going to tell Kevin when the last time I ate was. Its been a few days but Im not hungry. Maybe i will eat when i get home. I think since I left my house i have lost a great deal of weight. 

The item i had picked up was a pin for your hair. It was a in the shape of a flower. It looked to be made of sea glass. It was blue. I loved it. 

"Do you like it?" Kevin asked. The look on my face must have answered because he immediately bought it for me. 

"Really you ave gotten me so much." He just looked at me with his big green eyes that I couldn't resist. "Thank you."

On the way home we talked, I mostly talked about my life on land and how I have always loved the ocean. We were almost home. 

"So Sarah, when we first met you said you were almost 16. So when is your birthday?"

I had completely forgotten about my birthday. "December 11th."

"That was three days ago. What a way to spend your 16th birthday. Happy Birthday."

I laughed at this. "Thanks."  Well I guess I'm 16 now.

Kevin's POV

We got home about dusk. I bought Sarah everything she looked at. I had to carry all of these bags up to her room. I think there must have been at least 20. But it was worth it to see the smile on her face.

"I'm gonna take a shower. We still gonna watch that movie tonight?" I promised her we would watch a movie tonight. 

"Yep come to my room about 10. And the chef should be bringing your food up soon." She said OK as I left her room to go get ready. I had it all planned, We were going to watch a scary movie. I wanted to be close to her and I figured she would when she saw all the blood and killing going on. But I didn't pick a movie with guns. I was also hoping she would ask me to sleep in her room again. Hey what can I say. I think I'm gonna ask her on a real date soon. I know she likes me.

At about 10 she came to my room. She had on a t shirt and no make up. She looked amazing. "So what are we going to watch?" I was taken out of my thought.

 "One of my favorite movies. Come and sit on the bed." She came over and sat on the opposite end of the bed from me. She wouldn't be there for long. I got up and put the movie in. When I got back on the bed i got a little closer to her. 

Ten minutes into the movie and she was already practically in my lap. Every time the scary music would come on she would bury her face in my chest. I had one hand over her shoulder and i would pull her in. I felt like I was protecting her. I felt like it was my purpose in life to protect her. By the end of the movie she wouldn't even look up at the screen.

"Sarah, it over you can look now."

"That was scary. How am I supposed to sleep tonight? I already have nightmares." She got up and started to leave. "Good night." Oh no. It didn't work.

"Oh yeah, make sure your windows shut. There is a shark on the loose and they eat mermaids."

She turned around and looked around the room. "Maybe I will sleep in here tonight." She quickly swam over to the bed and got under the covers next to where I was. "I just want to let you know that the only reason I'm staying in here is not because I'm scared but because its a long way to my room and I don't want to swim that far." She said this in a matter of fact sort of way and turned the other way. This made me laugh. 

"Good night." I leaned forward and kissed the top of her head still laughing.
