Skye woke up and looked out the window it was glum as mist overcast her city, Tokyo. Although Skye was originally from Greece, Skye, her parents and sixteen year-old brother immigrated to Japan for her Mom's job. This was Skye's day her twelfth birthday she ran down stairs to see a large cupcake with a single candle and a regular sized box wrapped in some sparked wrapping paper. She began to look around but no one else was there. The only other form of life seemed to be the small, lonesome flame that stood above the candle.
A single tear escaped the welling in Skye's eyes. She realized her mother had gone to work as well as her father. She began to wonder if her if her brother had gone out to school with his girlfriend already and forgot her birthday. She let another tear trickle down her cheeks and soon many more came to follow. Her family was not broken they loved each other very much and cared about each other. Skye tried to reassure herself that tonight they would have a great dinner party and all would be happy. But the aching in her heart continued.
"Skye I...." Her brother began with sadness in his eyes.
" Ben it's okay," she said softly jumping into his arms.
"I wanted it to be a surprise but it broke me to see you cry, this is my last day here I go back to Greece this noon. I would never forget your birthday Skye! I love you so much kid! You are the most beautiful sister in the entire world, never forget that! I'm gonna get ready and then we'll open your presents okay? See you later beautiful." He winks and goes upstairs to shower.
It was true Skye was the most beautiful girl to meet not only personality but also appearance. Beautiful, long, brown hair, gorgeous blue eyes and stunning cheek bones. Although she didn't think much of herself. Skye looked at the table only noticing that there was only one present, but clearly remembering her brother saying 'presents' not that it mattered to Skye. She shook it off and blew out the candle on her cupcake.
A few minutes later Ben came down the stairs holding something behind his back. Skye raised an eyebrow but didn't want to make a big thing of it. She took another bite of her cupcake, while Ben was starring at her.
"Want some?" She asked with a mouth half full of cupcake.
"Nah I'll pass," he said laughing while shaking his head, "why don't you open your presents."
There it was again 'presents', weird right?
"Mkay?" She replied still a little confused.
She began to tear the blue wrapping paper of the box revealing a black box with the words 'Nike Air' written on them. Could it be no fricken way! She had wanted them for so long. She began to open the box to reveal the shoes. Her favorite colors as well, blue, black and white.
"They're beautiful Ben! Thank you so much!" She said embracing him in a hug. As she felt her chest tighten.
"What's wrong Skye?" he pulled away looking concerned.
"I'm gonna miss you so much Ben! I need to see you in the morning when I wake up! You can't leave," she started as she began to cry, "I just can't lose you Ben. I only have two friends you and Graye! Please Ben?"
"Skye I have to! And I'll visit you in Summer I promise! And, and If you miss me then just look at this and remember I'll always be with you." he said pulling a pearl necklace out from behind his back.
He walked over to her and started to put the necklace over her head and clipping it behind her neck. It was beautiful and engraved on the three pearl strung in the middle of the necklace were the letters 'B, + , S' .
"Ben it's beautiful!" Skye said in awe of the necklace.
