Hurrying out if her father's office, Sophie pulled out her phone and squeaked. Orientation was about to start and she was supposed to assist in one of the groups, being Derek Lee's daughter and all.
Tucking one hand into her messy straight long hair, Sophie ran down the halls and out the building and towards the main lobby.
By the time she arrived there was a large mass of students crowded around the square. Some stared at her as she hurried through to the front where the guides would be waiting.
"Excuse me. Sorry. Gotta get through," Sophie muttered as she made her way through the student body. Her head suddenly bumped into someone's chest. It was a boy. Something clicked in the back of her head but she didn't quite know what. Embarrassed, Sophie lowered her head and fled, not looking at his face and muttering an apology for her clumsiness.
Finally reaching the guides, Sophie turned around, searching for a familiar face. There sitting behind a couple of trees a good 50 metres away from the crowd was a boy on his phone looking unimpressed. Sophie walked over slowly and quietly, trying not to let him notice her presence. She crept behind him and then leaped on top of him.
"Boo!" She yelled, laughing as the boy turned around and nearly jumped.
"Sophie Lee!" He screeched. "How many times have I told you not to sneak up on me? It's not good for my health!" Even though he was scolding her, she could see the corners of his lips curl up in a smirk. "Or maybe you missed me so much that you couldn't bear to stay alone."
Sophie giggled. "Maybe I did miss you Noah Cheng," she mimicked Noah's exclamation and smirked back. "Anyways we have to help with orientation soon so I came to get you."
"Let's skip." Noah said matter-of-factly as he stuffed his phone in his cardigan pocket. "We already know where everything is. And there are more than enough assistants for the guides. They won't notice we're gone."
Silently pondering his offer, Sophie imagined her father's face if he found out she skipped orientation to stay with Noah. Though he was friends with Noah's father, Edmund Cheng, Derek wasn't exactly ecstatic when they started dating.
"But," she was silenced as Noah pecked her cheek. Sophie's cheeks flushed from the sudden contact and she bit her lip.
Noah smiled as he watched his girlfriend's expression. He loved teasing Sophie; it was just so much fun seeing her reactions. As his face turned serious again, Noah pulled Sophie into his lap. Latching his arms around her waist he gingerly brushed his lips with hers, before pulling back. Sophie whimpered in his arms. Smiling he connected their lips again.
Sophie closed her eyes as Noah came to kiss her again, his hands on her back pressing her closer to his body and wrapped her arms around his neck, tangling her fingers in his long dark hair, before breaking the kiss.
"I wonder what it's like to have black hair," she whispered.
"That's why you don't dye your hair," Noah said, smiling, running his fingers through her blonde locks, and tucking a stray piece behind her ear.
"Stop it," Sophie pouted. "You know better than anyone that my blonde hair is natural."
Sophie Lee was Asian but also naturally blonde. She didn't know where the blonde gene came from, but she always felt treated differently when people realized it was indeed a natural phenomenon.
She would have long ago dyed her hair to the normal pitch black just like the hair colour of normal Asians, like her father, her mother, and even Noah. But Noah insisted that she keep her natural hair colour, claiming that tons of Asians, himself included would have loved to be naturally blonde. He had desperately showed her a music video where several Asians celebrities had dyed their hair blonde, and finally Sophie had given in and agreed to keep her hair in her unique natural shade.
