After a busy day helping her father, Sophie nearly dragged herself to her dorm. She was exhausted and more than ready to head to dive onto her bed and fall asleep.
Walking into the dorm, she noticed that her roommate had already finished moving in. It was tidy, with notebooks and binders stacked together and a Surface 4 placed facedown on the desk. While hurrying to unpack her belongings, a girl with long brown hair and hazel eyes entered the room, drying her hair with a towel.
"Hey! I'm Kimberly Hillsdown. You can just call me Kimi though," she said, drying her hair before lifting up her head. Her eyes grew bright with a smile. "Sophie!"
"Um, hi. I'm Sophie Lee," Sophie introduced. "How do you know my name exactly?" Kimi laughed.
"Don't you remember me?" she said, faking a hurt face. "We were best friends back in New York. That was before you moved though. You never texted me and I thought you were having fun here in Cali all by yourself. She laughed. Kimi seemed like a fun girl, but Sophie couldn't remember her. At least she seemed nice. Sophie could have imagined a way worse roommate. Thank god she wasn't one of them.
"Do you actually not remember me?" Kimi asked as she tried to comb through her thick locks.
"Not really," she replied. "I mean, apparently I had an accident the summer before senior year. I can't remember anything before that."
Nodding her head, Kimi didn't ask any questions. "Well, that means we can make some fun memories together, don't you think?" she said smiling. Sophie smiled back. Kimi's respected her privacy and didn't prey into her personal life or her past. Maybe one day, Sophie would tell her what happened.
After effectively attacking her hair, Kimi ties her still wet hair up into a bun. Sophie look at her confused, wondering how it'd dry in that hairstyle especially when she would be going to bed before Kimi noticed her staring and giggles.
"It can give you the most wonderful curls you know. It usually only lasts for a hour, but if you use some hairspray this is staying wavy the whole day. Better than using a curling iron." Sophie nodded, interested. Her mother never was interested in hair, so she didn't exactly know any secret hair tips.
"So what are you majoring in?" Kimi asked, changing the subject.
"Fashion," Sophie replied. "But I'm also studying business. How bout you?"
"Really?" Kimi exclaimed. "I'm literally majoring in business and minoring in fashion." The girls squealed.
"Ohhh," Kimi chuckled. "We got a future famous fashion designer in the house!"
"Oh, I probably won't even be famous. What are you talking about?" Sophie laughed along with Kimi.
"You never know what the future might bring," Kimi replied. "I mean, it brought us back together didn't it?"
"Sure did," Sophie smiled politely. Though she didn't know who Kimi was in the past, she would really like to make new memories with her now.
"Maybe one day, we'll both be famous best friends in the fashion industry. You never know, Sophie muttered.
"I mean we're already best friends," Kimi pointed out, and Sophie felt relieved. "All we gotta do is make it big in fashion!"
The two girls spent the rest of the evening talking and getting to know each other before falling fast asleep. It wasn't easy controlling yourself on the first night spent at uni.
