When I first began writing Shattered Vows, I didn't set out to craft a story of betrayal for its own sake. I wanted to explore what happens to a person when the ground beneath them collapses—when love, family, and trust all fracture at once. Sophie's journey came from a single question that haunted me: What do we do when the people we trust most are the very ones who break us?
For me, Sophie's strength was never about pretending she wasn't hurt. It was about acknowledging the depth of that pain and still finding a way to rise above it. She is not a perfect heroine. She stumbles, she doubts, she even schemes. But at her core, she learns something that I hope every reader carries away from this book: betrayal may break your heart, but it doesn't have to break you.
Jessica, Mark, Evan, and even Diane were not created as villains for the sake of cruelty—they are reflections of the many ways selfishness, weakness, and favoritism can erode trust. Their choices mirror the darker side of human nature, the side we often don't want to confront in those closest to us. Writing their flaws was difficult, but necessary, because their betrayals make Sophie's resilience all the more powerful.
Shattered Vows is ultimately a story about transformation. It's about the courage to stand in the wreckage of broken promises and choose to build something new—on your own terms.
To every reader who has ever felt silenced, underestimated, or betrayed: this story is for you. May Sophie's journey remind you that you are stronger than the lies told about you, louder than the whispers behind your back, and far more powerful than the people who tried to break you.
Thank you for turning these pages and stepping into Sophie's world. Writing this story has been as cathartic for me as I hope reading it is for you.
With gratitude,
— Constantino Fernandes
