I stared straight ahead, feeling a little light headed – a few people had come up to me to congratulate me for being the top scorer for the SATs in the whole of Woodlands High. I smiled softly and thanked each and every one of them but once they were gone, I went back to spacing out.

"Beth?" I heard my younger brother called out to me as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

I got back to my senses and looked at him, "What is it, Ben?"

"You're spacing out again,"

"You know I don't really like these sort of parties," I murmured softly.

"It'll be over soon, don't worry."

I grumbled softly, so that my parents wouldn't hear me. I hated having to attend these kind of parties where business men would bring their family and socialize with other business partners. It wasn't my kind of thing, albeit the fact that my best friends parents are also at the party but none of them ever attend except for Ben and I ofcourse. Because according to my father, "It would show the other partners that we're a happy family."

Happy my foot, does it look like I'm happy to be here right now? I'd rather spend my time at Claire's or the Phillip's household having actual fun.

I don't even know half of the people who had come up to me to congratulate me, not wanting to be rude – I faked my smile as per usual and thanked them.

"Alright, I think it's about time we got home," My father approached my brother and I and throughout the miserable night, I actually managed to smile genuinely.

I woke up to the sound of my younger brother's yells outside my room, he was yelling about something which didn't make sense to me at the moment till I heard him screaming the word 'school'. Oh that's right, it's a school day and I couldn't care less. Don't get me wrong, I mean I love my younger brother, he and I are close as hell but he needs to stop with the yelling.

"WHAT?!" I yelled at him once I opened the door and I see him right infront of my room all dressed up in his school uniform, I scanned him from head to toe and looked at the clock on the wall, "Ben. It's only 7 in the morning, why are you ready so early?" I stretched my hands and entered my bedroom once more leaving the room door open, allowing my younger brother to enter.

"Come on, Beth. It's SATs year for me, I'll have to get myself pumped and ready for school to get an A credit," Ben answered me in a as-a-matter-of-fact tone.

"Oh, I forgot." I looked at him with a shock look on my face, "What?" He asked.

"That you're a nerd!" I exclaimed, he grabbed a pillow and threw it at me, "Get dressed, sis and don't be late!" Ben stuck his tongue out at me and ran downstairs.

Ben is a year younger and this year would be my final year at Woodlands High, a strict private school with an all uniform policy. I didn't mind the uniforms though, it's better than to have to think about what to wear every single day and considering my parents jobs, I don't think I'd be able to wear something different each day.

I took a hot shower before stepping out and drying myself, I blow dryed my black hair which has grown throughout the summer; I looked into the mirror and fixed the red tie around my collar. I made sure that I had placed everything in my backpack before running down to the dining room to join my family for breakfast.

"What do you know?" I smiled and hit my brother's head when I found him sleeping on the table while he waited for our mother to cook our favourite pancakes.
