I stopped by Claire's house the next day for our usual hangout sessions, we usually tell each other that we'd study but we end up doing something else – watching a movie, binge eating or just anything else but study.
Claire greeted me with a smile on her face, we both hugged as I entered her house.
"Hey Mrs. Nakamura!" I greeted and waved at her mum who smiles and came over to give me a tight hug, "Oh dear, I haven't seen you in awhile! How are you?"
"Same ol' me," I replied with a smile, I was always glad to see Claire's mum, she was a lovely woman who often catered to our needs (for example, food.) but at the same time, she was independent enough to be raising Claire alone ever since Claire's father went back to Japan a few months ago for a business venture – but he'll be back soon, provided his business makes it or something like that.
I've always looked up to Claire and her family, I remembered when Mr. Nakamura came back from his business venture and he told me of how he met Claire's mum in Japan when they were still students at Tokyo University and Claire's mum was an exchange student there from America. Simple enough, they fell in love and Mr. Nakamura decided to move to LA with her.
"Okay we're going to head upstairs, mum," Claire kissed her cheek and we both went up into Claire's room.
Claire had an obsession with the colour pink, her walls were baby pink and her bed sheets were in pink too, basically everything in her room was pink – except maybe her clothes and our school uniform. I often cringed whenever I entered her room since I wasn't a big fan of the colour pink.
"So how has your tutoring been?" Claire asked as she clears the mess on her make up table and I plop on her huge bed.
I groaned, "Why does everyone ask me that?"
"And who is everyone, Beth?"
"You, my brother, my parents, his uncle and aunt," I took a pillow to muffle my screams, "Just leave me alone!"
"Why am I getting the idea that he's driving you nuts?"
"Because he is!" I exclaimed.
"Did he do something to you?" She turned around to face me.
I brought the pillow close to my chest and hugged it tight, "Not exactly but I bumped into him and his friends the other day and well yeah one of them basically poured my oreo milkshake on me,"
"WHAT?!" Claire yelled.
"Claire! Not so loud!" I shh-ed her.
Claire composed herself, "What is their problem?" She huffed and folded her arms across her chest.
"I really don't know," I shook my head, "Enough about them, let's talk about you!"
"What about me?"
"Well you knooowww," I hesitated and Claire raised her eyebrows, clearly not knowing what I was talking about.
I grinned, "I'm talking about you and Shane, silly!"
"There's nothing going on between Shane and I," She sighed and pinched her forehead.
"Claire, you have been crushing on that boy since junior high,"
"And nothing's going to happen," Claire said firmly, although I could tell that she was a little disappointed in herself for not trying to make a move on him or maybe she was waiting for him to notice her. I really hope that Shane notices Claire, she's a lovely girl, an awesome friend – ignoring the fact that she's too blunt for her own good but other than that, she deserves someone who'd care for her.
