Princess Hazel's senses had been on high alert for days, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss. She had grown accustomed to Hartson's visits, but his sudden absence had left her feeling uneasy. The guards outside her room seemed more vigilant than usual, and she could sense their eyes on her even when she was alone.
The freedom she had once enjoyed in the kingdom was now a distant memory. She was confined to her room, with no access to the outside world. The silence was oppressive, and she felt like a prisoner rather than a guest.
One day, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She waited until the guards were distracted, and then she slipped out of her room, determined to uncover the truth. Her heart pounded in her chest as she moved stealthily through the corridors, her ears tuned to any sound that might give her a clue.
As she turned a corner, she caught snippets of conversation between two men. Her heart skipped a beat as she recognized the voices - Prince Hendrick and Hartson. She froze, her ears pressed against the door, as she listened to their conversation.
"...and once she's back in her kingdom, we'll make our move," Prince Hendrick said, his voice dripping with malice. "We'll use her to gain control, and then... we'll eliminate her."
Hazel's blood ran cold as she realized the true nature of their intentions. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. Hartson, the man she had trusted and fallen in love with, was part of this plan. The thought was like a knife to her heart.
She listened, her mind reeling as the two brothers discussed their plan in detail. They would use her to take over her kingdom, and then they would discard her like a used pawn. The more she listened, the more she realized that she was in grave danger.
Hazel's instincts screamed at her to flee, to get as far away from the kingdom as possible. But her legs felt like lead, and she couldn't move. She was trapped, and she knew she had to think fast if she wanted to survive.
As she stood there, frozen in shock, she heard Hartson's voice, his tone laced with reluctance. "Brother, are you sure this is the right course of action? Perhaps we could find another way..."
Prince Hendrick's response was immediate and ruthless. "No, Hartson. This is the only way. We can't afford to show weakness. The kingdom will be ours, and we'll do whatever it takes to achieve our goals"
As Princess Hazel stood frozen in shock, her mind racing with thoughts of escape, she realized that she had nowhere to run to. Her own kingdom was a nightmare, with Lady Victoria's men searching for her everywhere. The thought of returning to that place, where she would be hunted and vulnerable, filled her with dread.
Tears rolled down her blind eyes as she stood there, her heart heavy with despair. She felt like she was trapped in a living nightmare, with no escape in sight. The weight of her situation bore down on her, and for a moment, she felt like she couldn't breathe.
As she turned to go back to her room, her walking stick knocked against a vessel that was sitting near the door. The sound of the vessel falling to the ground was like a loud crash in the silent hallway. The two brothers, who had been engrossed in their conversation, were suddenly alert.
Prince Hendrick's eyes narrowed as he turned towards the door. "What was that?" he asked, his voice low and menacing.
Hartson's eyes flicked towards the door, and he felt a sense of unease. "I don't know," he replied, his voice tight with tension.
The two brothers exchanged a glance, and then Prince Hendrick strode towards the door. He flung it open, and his eyes scanned the hallway. That's when he saw Princess Hazel, her blind eyes fixed on the ground, her walking stick still clutched in her hand.
"Ah, Princess," Prince Hendrick said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I see you're exploring the castle. How...enlightening."
Hazel's heart sank as she realized she had been caught. She knew she had to think fast, to come up with an excuse for her presence in the hallway. But before she could say anything, Prince Hendrick's voice cut her off.
"Don't bother explaining, Princess," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I think we already know what's going on here."
Hartson stepped forward, his face etched with concern. "Brother, perhaps we should—"
But Prince Hendrick waved him off. "No, Hartson. I think it's time we had a little chat with our dear Princess Hazel. Bring her to my chambers, and let's discuss the...extent of her knowledge."
Hazel's heart sank as she realized she was in grave danger. She knew she had to think fast, to come up with a plan to save herself. But for now, she was at the mercy of the two brothers, and she knew she couldn't trust them.
