Chapter 29
Today's the day. The day of the concert.
I looked at myself one last time at the mirror before heading downstairs. I saw Ali waiting for me and as usual she's the excited one between us.
I tried really hard to imagine that the things that happened before didn't leave me broken. I tried telling myself that Brad didn't break my heart and I tried repeating to myself that everything is going to be okay.
It slightly worked. For a awhile, I guess. Then after awhile I started thinking about it too much. That's when Ali reminded me that the pain isn't going to last forever. Things heal when you give it time. And it's true. So I listened to her advice and moved on from the past and just maybe things would be a bit different between Brad and I.
"Hey cheer up Mack!" Ali says as she keeps her eyes on the road.
"It's not that simple Ali."
We arrived at the venue and everything started filling back in. The time I met all of them and all those laughs we had on the road. I smiled just remembering it but then I remembered that day when Brad and I shared that moment in the balcony and in the carnival. Then just remembering that, I felt a slight pain. I mean he did lie to me, after everything that happened.
"Well this is it, you ready?" Ali asked
I took a deep breath and nodded. Here goes nothing. We entered the venue and already there were people waiting to see them, the most dedicated fans. I smiled just remembering how Brad and the guys would preform on stage, how it came so naturally to them. The stage was where they were meant to be.
Ali and I waited for a few moments before I started to get anxious. I needed a breather, so I excused myself and headed nearer to the stage where less people stood. Suddenly, someone grabbed my hand and all I saw was someone in a black hoodie.
"What the? Let me go!" I began wiggling my way out but there was no use.
"Hey calm down it's just me!"
My heart sank. My blood levels dropped.
"Brad?" I finally said, in shock.
"I'm glad you came."
"Y-You lied to me!" I blurted out. I couldn't even contain my anger anymore.
"I know and I'm sorry. I should have told you sooner."
"That you already have a girl friend?"
"Richie isn't my girl friend." As those words flew right out of his mouth, my brain couldn't even process what he said and I just ended up staring at him as if he grew another head.
"What did you say?"
"She's not my girl friend. It only seemed like she was but she isn't. Our management was the one who decided that it would make good publicity. I was against it but that bloody manager of Richie gave the idea to my manager so that's how it ended up to be. Look, Mackenzie I really like you. But the reason I 'friend zoned', as you say it' it's because I wasn't exactly sure you liked me back."
"But I do like you."
"I know that now. Look I'm sorry if I hurt you. I really am so sorry."
"Brad is still missing. He wasn't on the plane with us but the show must go on." I heard his manager say on a phone as he walked pass us. Brad lowered his head so he wouldn't be seen and placed his hoodie back on.
"You ran away?" I asked.
"I needed time to think, okay?"
I nodded, understanding how he felt.
