We drove to the police station, to talk to the sheriff, and lets say he was shocked to see us.

"Now, I'm sorry, but why does the wildlife service care about an accidental drowning?" he asked. As we walked to his office.

"You sure it's accidental? Will Carlton saw something grab his sister." Sam replied.

"Like what?" the sheriff (Jake) counter argued. "Here, sit, please. There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake." Dean and Sam sat, but I stood. "There's nothing even big enough to pull down a person, unless it was the Lock Ness Monster."

"Yeah." Dean mumbled. And we gave a forced chuckle. "Right."

"Will Carlton was traumatized, and sometimes the mind plays tricks. Still-"the sheriff insisted. "We dragged the entire lake. We even ran a sonar sweep just to be sure, and there was nothing down there."

"That's weird, though, I mean, that's, that's the third dead body missing this year." I added.

"I know. These are people from my town. These are people I care about."

"I know."

"Anyway... All this... it won't be a problem for much longer." The sheriff sighed.

"What do you mean?" Dean asked.

"Well, the dam, of course."

"Of course, the dam. It's, uh, sprung a leak." Dean stuttered.

"It's falling apart, and the feds won't give us the grant to repair it, so they've opened the spillway. In another six months, there won't be much of a lake. There won't be much of a town, either. But as Federal Wildlife, you already knew that." We gave a slight nod.

"Exactly." Dean added.

Just then there was a tap at the door, there was a young woman standing there. The boys instantly stood.

"Sorry, am I interrupting?" she asked. "I can come back later."

"Gentlemen. Ma'am. This is my daughter." The sheriff introduced.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." Dean smiled. "I'm Dean." He shook her hand.

"Andrea Barr. Hi." She replied.

"Hi." Dean. Such a flirt.

"They're from the wildlife service. About the lake."

"Oh."

"I'm Emerson." I smile as she shook my hand politely.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." She replied.

Just then a little boy walked in and around Andrea.

"Oh, hey there. What's your name?" I asked.

"His name is Lucas." The sheriff answered. Lucas and Andrea walked into the main room. Andrea gave him some crayons out of a box.

"Is he okay?" Sam asked.

"My grandson's been through a lot. We all have." The sheriff replied. "Well, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know." We nodded as we left the office.

"Thanks. You know, now that you mentioned it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced hotel?" Dean asked.

"Lakefront Motel. Go around the corner. It's about two blocks south." Andrea piped in.

"Two-would you mind showing us?" Dean asked.

"You want me to walk you two blocks?" she questioned.

"Not if it's any trouble." He added.

"I'm headed that way anyway." She replied.

"I'll be back to pick up Lucas at three." She added, turning to Lucas. "We'll go to the park, okay, sweetie?" she kissed his head.

"Thanks again." Sam said as we followed her out
