Back at the motel, Dean was sat on the bed. I eventually sat on Dean, because he wouldn't leave me alone. So now I was sat on his chest and he was glaring at me. just then Sam walked in.
"So, I think it's safe to say we can rule out Nessie-" he stared at my form sitting on Dean. "Do I wanna know?" I shook my head, climbing off him.
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"I just drove past the Carlton house. There was an ambulance there. Will Carlton is dead." I frowned and turned my head to Sam.
"He drowned?" Dean asked.
"Yep. In the sink." Sam replied.
"What the hell? So you're right, this isn't a creature. We're dealing with something else." I concluded.
"Yeah, but what?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. Water wraith, maybe? Some kind of Demon? I mean, something that controls water... water that comes from the same source." Dean replied.
"The lake." Sam concluded.
"Yeah." Me and Dean chorused. I laid back on the bed, looking at the picture that Lucas gave me.
"Which would explain why it's upping the body count. The lake is draining. It'll be dry in a few months. Whatever the thing is, whatever it wants, it's running out of time." Sam affirmed.
"And if it can get through the pipes, it can get to anyone, almost anywhere." Dean declared. "This is gonna happen again soon."
"And we do know one other thing for sure. We know it has got something to do with Bill Carlton." I clarified.
"Yeah. It took both his kids." Dean added.
"And I've been asking around. Lucas's dad, Chris- Bill Carlton's godson." Sammy informed us.
"Let's go pay Mr Carlton a visit." Dean murmured.
***********
"Mr Carlton?" Sam called. He was on the bench on the dock.
"We'd like to ask you a few questions, if you don't mind." He added.
"We're from the, the department-" he cut Dean off.
"I don't care who you're with. I've answered enough questions today." He objected.
"Your son said he saw something in that lake. What about you? You ever see anything out there? Mr Carlton, Sophie's drowning and Will's death- we think there might be a connection to you or your family." Sam tried.
"My children are gone. It's...it's worse than dying. Go away. Please." Sam looked at me and Dean.
"Of course Mr Carlton. We're sorry for your losses." I muttered as we headed back to the car.
"What do you think?" Sam asked as we stood by the car.
"Aw, I think the poor guy's been through hell. I also think he's not telling us something." Dean pointed out.
"So what now?" Sam asked. I froze. He turned to me.
What is it
?" Dean asked.
"Maybe Bill's not the only one who knows something." I pulled out the picture of the Carlton's house that Lucas drew for me.
***********
"I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a good idea." Andrea disagreed.
"I just need to talk to him." I insisted. "Just for a few minutes."
"He's won't say anything. What good's it gonna do?" she asked.
"Andrea, we think more people might get hurt. We think somethings happening out there." Sam added.
"My husband, the others, they just drowned. That's all." She replied.
"If that's what you believe, then we'll go. But if there's even a possibility that something else could be going on here, please let me talk to your son." I reasoned.
Lucas was colouring on the floor with his soldiers standing around him.
"Hey, Lucas. You remember me?" there were some pictures of a bicycle on the floor. "You know, I, uh, I wanted to thank you for that last drawing. But the thing is, I need your help again." I put the other picture in front of him. "How did you know to draw this? Did you know something bad was gonna happen? Maybe you could nod yes or no for me." I paused. "You're scared. It's okay. I understand. See, when I was your age, I saw something real bad happen to my parents and my brother, and I was scared too. I didn't feel like talking, just like you. But see, my brother- I know he wanted me to be brave. I think about that every day. And I do my best to be brave. And maybe, your dad wants you to be brave too." A single
tear fell down my cheek. Lucas dropped the crayon and looked up at me. Then he handed me a picture of a church, a yellow house and a boy with a red bicycle.
"Thanks Lucas." I praise, standing and walking to the door, wiping
the tear away.
