The inky canvas
Of the night sky,
Splattered with
Pulsating nebulae.
Oh, I'm just another
Swirling mass of gases;
A prosaic dwarf in this
Unending sea of brilliance.
While I remain lost
In my demeaning thoughts,
Something sneaks up
From behind.
Just another lost soul,
Searching for a ray of hope,
I decipher from my predicament
Before we collide.
A sudden flash
Of iridescent colours
And an explosion
Of thermal splendour.
With a vortex of swirling
Stellar material for my belly,
And two jet streams seething from
My once bare skeleton.
A spark of electricity,
And the lingering smell of singed air.
Something extraordinary
Is taking place.
Once the commotion subsides,
And I open my eyes,
I realise that I am no longer situated
In a solitary part of the skies.
Whirring activity
On either side,
The eternal darkness
No longer thrives.
The profound black
Is lit by a million lights.
I can't help my sigh
Of utter delight.
I'm struck by sheer
Wonder and awe:
I'm right in the
Middle of the Cosmos.
