Chapter 4

One week. One week to my first mission as a scout. I was nervous as hell. Nate, he never said it but I would swear he was a frightened as me, and I trained every free minute. With the other ones or alone.

Martial Arts and combat training were no use against Titans (for everyone except a certain guy, named Eren Yeager) but I loved it and so I was standing in the afternoon sun, doing knife training with Nate.
"Ey Karen !"
"What ?" I turned around. It was Jean, oh my god.
"Why are you traing with a knife ? You can't stab a Titan, you know ?"
"It's training after all. To keep yourself in form you can't only train with your 3DMG."
"Hmm. So you like knife training ?"
I grined "My knifes are my favourite weapons."
"Cool"
"Hey Jean, why not try her ?"
"Nate, what ?"
My brother smiled: "I need a break from being stabbed by you and I would like to see how Jean does against you." Then he whispered in my ear: "Come on Kar. I know you like him."
I blushed. I wasn't surprised that he figured it out, he was my twin brother after all, but...
"Bring it on you two" Nate gave Jean the knife and made his way to the sideline.
"Well, why not. But I have to warn you, Kare. I'll..." He stoped as he felt my blade poking into his tummy.
I smiled at him "Less talking, more fighting."
Jean looked impressed. "Wow, you are freakin fast."
I stood back. "Thank you."
He raised the knife. "Round two ?"

Later Jean and I were lying on the ground. We were exhausted from half an hour of really fast knife fighting. Nate applauded. "Very good you two. Looked exciting from here. Especially you Jean. I think you only got killed around ten times, which is a really low number if you take Karen. And Karen you would have been dead some times too and I wont talk about the wounds you two would have everywehere."
"Cut it out, Nate." I said, still lying there.
"You know, now when you are exhausted I maybe have a chance against you , Kar ."
Jean rose his head. "This seems quite unfair to me. Why don't Karen and I team up and you see if you have a chance against both of us."
Nate smiled "Why not ?"
Jean rose and walked over to me, giving me his hand to pull me up. As he pulled me up, however, I lost my balance and fell right into his chest. He caught me. It was like he hugged me. HE HUGGED ME. I think in this moment my face was so red you could see it shine from Wall Sina.
Jean stood back. "Come on Karen, find your balance or we won't have a chance."
"Stop talking and focus or we won't have a chance." I shot back turning around to Nate. "You know you could have killed us both." Nate gave me a smile. "I just didn't want to ruin the moment." He rose his knife. "Ready ?"

Later, as Nate and I walked back to the castle, he asked me: "Why didn't you kiss him ?"
I thought I heard something wrong. "What did you just say ?"
Nate laughed. "Oh come on, Karen. That moment he caught you ? I thought I would become witness if my bookworm sis finally getting a boyfriend."
"Nate !"
"Oh please Kar ! It's so obvious !"
"What's obvious ?"
"He. Likes. You."
My heart skiped a beat. "Really ?"
"YES !" Nate shook his head. "Oh my god you two are so horribly blind. When we are back from this mission I have to make you two tell each other."
I laughed. "Do that."
He smiled: "I promise"
