I was sitting on the couch while everyone else was dancing on the dance floor . I took a deep breath and stood up to go to the kitchen and prepare some snacks. The doorbell rang. I lowkey rolled my eyes knowing it wasn't him, Justin. Of course he wouldn't show up. I knew it! I opened the door to reveal a guy, not so tall, brown eyes to check me out.

"happy birthday" he said in a calm tone handing me a bottle of wine.

I smiled, still in shock he showed up to my birthday party. It was him! It was Justin.

"Come in, come in please." I said in a convincing tone.

He walked in to the living room where everyone else was. He greeted everyone before pouring himself a cup of wine. I was trying not to look at him, but I couldn't help it. His mysterious eyes, his lips, his everything was somehow satisfying to look at. Drinking my own drink I slowly started feeling tipsy, very tipsy.

"Arielle, girl why so quiet." My very best friend, Danielle said.

I don't know how to explain our friendship, but we've been friends for 1 year now and we've become super close friends. I trust her for life and she does the same, but we tend to fight a lot. Anyway, she wasn't tipsy nor was she drunk. But I was certainly becoming so.  I crashed into the wall before I managed to respond.

"hey I am not drunk!" I stated.

"Woah, watch it! What's tempting you to drink this much?" She asked in a worried tone, but yet sarcastic. I rolled my eyes and walked away from her. I sat down next to Justin. Took another sip of my drink while checking my phone. It was an awkward silence between me and Justin. I wanted to say something so badly, but just couldn't come up with anything to say. It felt like the room was spinning several times around me.

"Hey Justin, come dance with me." Danielle yelled from across the room. Justin's smile showing and I felt like I was becoming angry. What is she doing? Why him? They barely know each other.

I looked at Justin waiting to hear his answer. He put his hands behind his head feeling super relaxed. The truth is, he never gave her an answer. Perhaps he didn't hear her or was trying to play hard to get. But it seemed odd to me. Danielle kept looking at him in confusion. Knowing she failed big time, she didn't ask again to my surprise.

"Soo you having fun so far?" Justin asked. And yes, he was indeed asking me.

"Uhm... I -"

"Arielle! Get up let's dance!" Danielle spat in the middle of my sentence. I walked up to her barely trying to control my balance. I grabbed her hand and dragged her to my room.

"What is this? You've been in a bad mood all day."

"You tell me!"

I spat in anger.

I may or may not have feelings for this Justin guy whatsoever, but would my best friend even give me a chance to get to know him and talk to him?

"Oh I get it..." Danielle says quietly. Get what? What is she "getting". There's nothing to get.

"What do you mean?" I ask with a tone just as calm as hers. Inside of my chest, my heart was pounding so fast.

Before she managed to open her mouth a champagne bottle was popped inside the living room. Time to go back to the party.

We walked back into the living room to spot everyone else having a great time, but me. Of course, Danielle went straight back to Justin. I'm starting to think: That she does this to piss me off.
