I was not quite sure where Mae had gone. But something told me that more was wrong than this. I ran into the girls bathroom as a first instinct. I checked all of the stalls, then i saw Mae’s blue sneakers dangling. She was here, I now knew this. I knocked lightly on the door to see if she would let me in. She opened the door slowly and I could see her red face wet from tears.

“Mae, whats wrong? Everything will be ok now- Kali is in the past” I said calmly

“No Macy, its not ok. Kali hurt me- really bad. She has been sending me nasty notes ever since that. One said she was going to show everyone the private videos we took. The one of me talking about my crush going crazy for like an hour. I can’t let that happen, and her insults sting Macy. She knows how to be mean I-I just” Then Mae began to cry again and I hugged her tight

“I’m so sorry Mae. For all she did to you” I apologized.

“No. I’m sorry Macy, for all Kali did to you. For what I did to you. This is my fault” She said

“Mae, it is fine. I mean, Kali did that to you she knows how to get people like that” I suggested.

Mae looked down at her shoes shuffling them side to side. I just wanted her to be ok again. For her to be the old fun Mae who didn’t have to have to hurt so much. When she finally started to calm down and stop crying I pulled out a tissue for her. She looked up and gave me a half hearted smile.

“Come on Mae. Lets just be us again and forget about Kali. We have something of hers in case of blackmail. I have someone for you to meet too” I told Mae.

“Ok. But this person is nothing like Kali right? I think we should give Kali back her notebook without her knowing that we ever had it. Or else she might destroy our lives further.” Mae sniffled.

“No, we can not do such a weak thing. We have to show her that she is not the boss of us. That we control out lives- not her! So we will keep it until she comes to our faces begging on her hands and knees for it.” I proudly stated.

Mae nodded/ shoulder shrugged at this. “Ok” she finally said.

This was the start of our new BFF friendship. A fresh and clean slate, it may have been just what we both needed. A reassurance that we were the most perfect of friends for each other.
