Chapter Ten: Wake Up

Austin's PoV

It's been about 15 minutes since that happened. Courtney's heart rate is extremely, dangerously slow.

Kaylei is still a sleep.

I'm sitting on the little couch thingy, and her head is in my lap. She's so cute when she sleeps. I sit there playing with her hair for about five minutes, then I suddenly realize something..... I love her, Kaylei, I love her.

"Austin?" Kaylei asks in her tired voice, looking up at me.

"Yeah?" I ask.

"Is Courtney going to be okay?"

"I don't know."

"I don't know what I'll do without her. She's my bestfriend."

"I wish I could promise you that everything would be okay."

"It's okay Austin. She's a strong girl. She'll pull herself out of this."

"I hope so. She's a really sweet girl."

"What time is it?"

"Uh... 5:17," I say looking at my phone.

"Can we just stay here tonight?"

"Yeah."

"Are you okay with me using you as a pillow?"

"I'm perfectly fine with it."

We both fall asleep a few minutes later.

 -Two Months Later *6:45AM*-

I randomly wake up.

Last night Courtney got even worse.

I look down at Kaylei and see she's still sleeping. I remember a song that reminds me of her. I start quietly singing 'Fall' by Justin Bieber.

When I finish, Kaylei opens her eyes.

"How long have you been awake?" I ask.

"About five minutes," she says.

"Oh, so you heard the song?"

"Yeah," she says smiling up at me.

I rub the back of my neck.

"Wanna know a secret?"

"Sure," I say nervously.

"I love you too."

"Really?"

"Yup," Kaylei says then sits up and turns towards me.

"Wha-?"

She interrupts my question by putting her finger against my lips. She moves her hand then moves so her lips are about 3cm away from mine.

Then I, eager to taste her kiss, fill the gap by crashing my lips onto hers.

"Awww, how cute?" my mom asks coming in the room a few seconds later, scaring us both so we pull away.

"Mom," I whine dragging out the o.

She smiles then says, "Sorry."

"I forgot to call Rachel!" Kaylei suddenly yells.

"It's okay sweetie, the doctors called them."

"Are they coming to see her?"

"They're on their way."

"Okay," Kaylei says then relaxes a little.

Alex comes running into the room then says, "We came as soon as we could!"

"We?"

"Cameron, Tyler, Zach, Robert, Andrew, Sarah, and Dave are all here too," my mom says.
