Chapter 19

August 2011

Carter's POV*

Liam and I walked onto the dock after our conversation about Niall. I'm not going to lie, his confirmation of my fears kind of freaked me out. I just hope Niall doesn't find out anything.

"Come in Carter!" Louis yelled from the water.

Gabbie must had made sure to tell them to stay on the right side of the dock since the left side is ridden with broken glass and they are all in a tight circle on the right side.

"She doesn't like to go in here anymore. She cut her foot pretty bad over there last time." Niall explained giving me a small smile. The boys all gave an 'aw' as a response and I gave them a smile in return.

Once they were done throwing each other around like dolls, they climbed out and grabbed the towels that were hanging on a clothes line near the dock to dry themselves off.

We ate dinner then grabbed some beer and made our way over the the bon fire before the boys had to leave.

Niall sat next to me with his guitar under his arm plucking the chords to Wonderwall. They boys began to sing along to the sweet sound of Niall's guitar while we drank.

They were always meant to be a band. Their voices blended like angels and they had such great chemistry together.

Niall leaned over during the chorus of the song and kissed me on the cheek, then resumed his singing.

Once the song ended, they threw around a few more verses of different songs, then the boys car pulled up causing us to stand up and begun to say our goodbyes.

"It was really great meeting you two." I said to Louis and Harry who hugged me and said goodbye and thank you.

"Thank you again. Best of luck with everything. Hopefully I'll see you in the future." Liam said as he embraced me.

"Thank you, you too." I replied.

I watched as Niall, Gabbie and Zayn all said their goodbyes then the boys got into their car and departed from the camp site.

Niall wrapped his arm around my waist and I rested my head on his chest staring at the sunset over the lake. Zayn had two arms over Gabbie chest and she held both his hands. It was perfect.

Niall's POV*

I held Carter close to me as we watched the sunset. Today was the perfect day. The boys absolutely adored Carter and she seemed perfectly comfortable with them as well.

"Let's head inside little bird." I said.

Carter nodded and I grabbed my guitar in one hand and held her hand with the other. I walked her to her cabin and gave her a quick kiss before entering my own cabin and hopping into bed. I was exhausted and allowed sledp to quickly engulf me whole.

A crack of thunder woke me from my deep sleep once again. Same as before, Zayn and Gabbie were curled up together in his bed. I closed my eyes to try and shut out the storm but was jolted up again at the next crack of thunder and lightning spreading itself across the night sky. Oh wait, Carter!

I shot out of bed and sprinted to Carter's cabin, forgetting to even put shoes on.

"N-Niall?" She stuttered from her bed, voice shaking. She had her knees pulled tightly to her chest and was slowly rocking back and forth, squeezing her eyes tightly shut at each crack of thunder.

"I'm here." I said, sitting down next to her on the bed. Her breathing was rapid, she was in the middle of an anxiety attack.

"Oh my little bird." I whispered. Her tears trailed down her cheeks in desperation for the storm to pass.

I pulled her into my lap and let her rest her head on my chest, wrapping my arms around her small body. I pulled the comforter up over us and held her tightly. Her breathing slowed to a steady pace and I could hear her heartbeat slow down a bit. Her eyes fluttered closed and in an instant she was fast asleep in my arms.

I rested my head against the pillow with my little bird in my arms and shut my eyes. Even though I had a fear of storms, at this moment in time, that disappeared and I felt at peace and like nobody in the world could harm me. All because of my little bird.

I personally think it's cute AF and this whole thunder buddy thing is adorable
